How many GPM is your BH pump? What if you installed quick connects on that and used it to power the splitter (as you will never use both at the same time)?

Great question Aaron good thinking!

I dont have any idea yet I need to look it up. The one thing is its not a 2 stage and I had thought of it once I decided to put quick connects on the splitter pump it dawned on me to do the same to the BH and then like I say its not a 2 stage so I came on here and started this thread.

That was one of my first questions to the guru's on here is do I really need 2 stage pump with a 38hp pto? Pro's con's etc....

edit: Here is the BH pump ser# HR3-3084A8. I searched on the net I can not even find HR anywhere so if someone sees what I am missing and can post the specs for me or point me in the right direction please do.

Just curious,
why dont you spend the effort
on making a three point carrier attachment to
connect the current log splitter to the
implement hitch and solve two issues
being 1., the issue of portability 2.,
leaving the existing power on the log
splitter and not do anything as you have
the power for the splitter already, then
fabricate a log lift for the log splitter
using one of the remotes if you have
one or more pairs of remotes that could
be utilized?

No point in doing all that work when you do
not have to is there?:D

Theres no point in overworking the solution when
its in front of you.

Well if speed is what you are after, first off, I would be thinking bigger than the 16GPM 2-stage, IF 2 stage is whay you decide.

You have the PTO HP to easially handle the 28GPM 2-stage.

And the last thing to keep in mind, to get the rated GPM of them 2-stage pumps, you HAVE to spin it @ like 3600RPM. I am not sre what your PTO options are, but I doubt you have one that spins that fast. So pulleys/belts or gears/chain, or a gearbox is going to be a must.

Agreed and its hard to answer those questions Leon other than what I have already said? I dont have remotes now like I mentioned and I did ponder the just attach it with add on 3pt mount and decided against that. Actually the axle wont come apart and if I could have taken that off it would have been a different situation as far attaching the splitter as is, the rack I can cut off no biggy it is gone in the new design anyway. I suppose I could do something with a different tank and re-mount the engine and still use it as it just cut the rack off and leave the existing tank/axle off lots of things to think of...I still think my original idea is the simplest though so far as long as my pump mount is a success it will be the easiest for sure.

That and I still need to figure out whether my BH or other ccw HP pump will work before I buy a cw rotation splitter pump and rig it backwards which I have a good idea how to do that and is probably the best way overall but still need input on single stage pumps working in this application to decide.

I will post a pic or 2 of what it looks like now so the visual is clearer. You can see I was thinking along those lines as I set this up to take pics.

The splitter beam and cyl w/valve is only held on with 1 pin 1 bolt and 2 lines extremely simple to take apart. And its deceiving by looking at the pics but the splitter beam is just about exactly as wide as the widest part of my wheel weights so its not actually sticking out as far as it looks.

fwtw I want it sideways rather than front to back mainly because I need to motivate in some small areas moving trees out etc.

Yup speed is one criteria of my design thanks LD1 a 28gpm is more money and thats fine if it isn't too fast any way to determine the difference between 11gpm to 16 to 28 on the actual cycle times on a certain cylinder I am new to this?

The 3600 rpm is the issue on splitter pumps that and the cw only rotation and since I need to run the 2 stage backwards on the mount getting the sprockets the right size should be no biggy just have to sit down and do some math. My pto is 540 @ 2200 and 685, and 1000, and 1268 so just need to figure it from there and the fact I want to run the engine just over an idle 1200ish 3rd gear and a 3 to 1 ratio is close.

More I think about this I need quick connects on my BH pump anyway because its got this weird funky hokey el-cheepo mounting I hate anyway and wanted to re-do like I am contemplating mounting the splitter pump.

I may as well just as well give it a shot powering the splitter all it can do is not work for the splitter! I can do this pretty quickly and it already does its job on the BH even though I know nothing about the specs on it yet doesn't really matter if it works right?

I am ordering the tank right now and starting the pump mount maybe later today pics to come a bit later this week or next week.
