need a rotary mower[is landpride ok?]

would a new landpride 15 series[standard duty]rotary cutter for 825.00 be a fair price.is this a ok mower??40hp gearbox w/shearpin.

How old is the mower, and what kind of shape is it in?

I have a landpride 1560 finish mower, and I like it very much. The only problem I have had with it is that the pneumatic tires sometimes get flats. I have put tubes in three of them so far, and am considering putting solid tires on it. But that is a problem with all types of finishing mowers.

I bought mine new two years ago for $1200, but the dealer had it for a while and wanted to get rid of it, so he gave me a great price. I think it usually goes for $1500 new.

Have you looked at the cheaper brands as well. The TSC and KK ones are admittedly light.. and cheap er.. inexpensive... but almost half the price as well.

You gonna be cutting real heavy stuff every day commercially.. or hitting a pasture 8 times a year?

Then again.. my neighbor has his ford 951 cutter since 1985 and it is in all but excelent condition...so.....

That's an awful lot to pay for a rotary cutter unless it's a 6' or bigger. Unless you are going to use it commercially, you can get a good new one for around $500. There was talk awhile back about the sheet metal rusting out on the cheaper ones, however I can't imagine anyone being dumb enough to leave their equipment out in the weather like our grandfathers did.

Landpride equipment are normally well made and very dependable. There are several good brands out there. I looked at several in my area before I bought mine. I finely called the dealer that I got my tractor from and was talking to him about used. He told me that he had a good used Woods. I bought it for $350. That's the best deal that I have made on equipment (I have made some really good deals). The thing that I like about Woods better that anyone else is the way the cutter blades attach. Instead of using a 2.25" or bigger socket, you use a 3/4"(?) to remove a keeper and then the big pin comes out. It works great. I guess what I am trying to say is, that there is some really good used equipment out there, if you are not in a hurry.

i think an inexpensive 6' would work fine but i,m having trouble locating a howse/rhino in my area.gonna do some calling around today.i would mail order one but shipping is a killer.bws

I wonder if this would satisfy my wife as a reason to keep the bush hog and box blade in the living room. Probably not.

My rusted used old beat up bush hog works just fine. Got it cheap too.

I have a 1560 rear mount Landpride mower that I paid $1500 for new. I have had it for over 2 years and mow 4 acres every week during the summer. Its a great piece of equipment and fairly easy to change blades and service.

Whether the $825 is a good deal depends on its condition. Look for bent blades, bad tires, oil/water in the gear box, noisy bearings, etc. Even though its new, it could have been used or damaged!

I would see if they will let you try it out first.
