BWS,

RE: your bio, if you're going to grow trees washington is the place to do it. I grew up in South Everett, before it became apartmentville.

Miss the mountains and the trees.

BWS:

Take a look at Midwest Equipments web sight. I just got a 5' utilty grade brush cutter and a box blade in 60" and 72" Great looking stuff for the money. They used to build for First choice so you know it great stuff. If you want to see it up close I live in Buckley, WA.

Re: need rotary cutter

I see in your bio that you have 6 acres and assume you need to clean it up with your rotary cutter. Although your new Kubota would probably handle a 6' if you take it easy, after you get your property cleaned up, it will be overkill. I would opt for the 5' and take it easy on the new tractor. Those last prices you got sound about right.

BWS,

Check out the thread "Woods vs. Landpride" regarding my shopping effort for a rotary cutter. I think that you have two choices - the "cheap and cheerful" King Kutter or similar units, or spending a little more for a Woods.

My 6 ft. Brush Bull was about $1100 - but this included a slip clutch (I'd recommend this over a shear pin - just for "robustness/forgiveness") I think Landpride makes some nice equipment (I'm looking at one of their tillers) but in rotary cutters I think the Woods is "heavier", and a more thoughtful design (sloped deck, "bumper reinforcement", etc.).

I own a Landpride 5' medium duty unit with the slip clutch.
It works very well. I've used it alot and hit more than my share of rocks and stumps with it. It still looks new.

My neighbor bought a Howse 5', it has had the equivilent of an entire new deck welded onto it. If it was me I'd drop it in the dumpster... That thing scares me.. He keeps on fixing it. He's had blades come right up through the deck! He may have bought the cheapest unit available, very light duty and be pushing it beyond design, I don't know.

How these things last seems to depend on a couple of factors.
first is having a slipclutch, and second is the toplink and whether the unit can move enough to jump over a stum. His has the ridgid toplink with no swing bracket.

Regards,
Chris
