OK finally had a moment to work on the little Honda EX1000.

Theory was that an o-ring around the nylon part shrunk/cracked. The nylon part is pressed in, I don't think it comes out. As Cory noted, Honda does not show it as a separate part from the carburetor body in their microfiche. I bought Seal-All and gooped all the way around the junction between the nylon and carburetor body. Put it back together and the little Honda runs perfect again. It was a very easy repair. Hopefully permanent repair (?).

:thumbsup:Appreciate VERY MUCH:thumbsup: that tip about gas resistant Seal-All, that's been added to my bag of tricks. I'm puzzled why I've never heard of Seal-All. It's not some new product. I must've know'd it then forgot it. Which is happening more these days .

I can't tell you how many problems I have had with ethanol ruining the carbs in my outdoor power equipment. Seems like every year the carb in one unit or another has to be cleaned, soaked, rebuilt, or replaced. My local dealer told me that about 85% of all equipment that comes in for running rough or not starting has carb issues. This especially holds true for 2 stroke handheld equipment. This is a pretty good article about ethanol.......

With some careful prying to open the crimped alloy, the plastic needle seat will come out, the oring of course is metric and difficult to find. But I have successfully repaired a few now.

Nashua my experience has not been as bad as yours. I now have 50 engines, and they are not giving me trouble with ethanol fuel. I fully expect any of them to run anytime with minimal effort. I drain carbs when I can. This is the first problem I've had in awhile, and I guess I'm lucky all was required was some Seal-All and tinkering (and internet time). IMHO, E10 is a popular whipping boy for inattention. Inattention happens, and I'm guilty too. E10 also serves as a good diversion when served a large repair bill.

This generator is probably 30 years old. The grandpa who passed it on never gave a thought to E10 and since I got it 15 years ago - probably all it's run in 20 years is E10. It was stored un-used for about 3 years, and I think the o-ring dried out and cracked. 30 year old o-rings have been drying and cracking before E10.

Funny thing for lots of eqpt you can now buy either a new carburetor for $25 or a rebuild kit for $25. I'm assuming the new carbs and kits are compatible with E10. In any case I'm not having such a clear-cut ethanol problem as a lot of folks say on the internet. And I certainly have enough engines to test the theory.

Winmac thanks for posting but the boss it was pressed into was thicker, & no place for crimps. If I saw any crimps I'da gone after them! I think the "retention" is that tab in the pic, just gets crammed into that slot.

I can't tell you if Seal-All will go the distance or if its E10 resistant - as this is the first time I've used it and it's only been a few days. And I just discovered Seal-All (which I still can't quite figure out how I was unaware of it). Since ethanol fuel has in use for 20 years certainly somebody knows if Seal-All is resistant to E10, just have to wait for experience to post up!

I have removed the needle seats from a number of small engines, and then I replace the O-ring with one
that is a bit small so it fits tightly. Getting the seat back in is not that easy, either.

only acetone or toluene dissolves Seal All

discovered it back in the 80's ... cleaned a car gas tank around a pin hole ... slathered some on alum foil , stuck to the tank and covered the back side with more sealer .... 5 years later it was still going strong .
