Hey guys, I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this Ford F250 on Craigslist and I want to get some feedback from you all before I do. Here's the link...

92 f250 4x4 utility/work truck

I plan to use it to pull my Kioti CK27, which is about 4400#. Is this enough truck?

I have no use for the Reading bed, so I'll probably sell it afterwards and build my own wooden bed. The seller says that it comes with a complete tow package with electric brake hookup and all.

Are there any issues to be aware of concerning this year and model???

Respectfully submitted,

I would think the biggest concern would be how well it was taken care of for a 20 year old truck. That will matter more than anything particular to the year or model in my opinion.

I can tell you that I had a similar pickup in a 96 model and it should pull a 4400# tractor around like nothing. Mine was a really good truck for me and I only sold it to trade up to a crew cab from the extended cab with my kids getting bigger.

I have a 93 truck that is the same engine though mine is a 5 speed. These are very durable trucks. they have a dana 50 independent suspension front axle (I would rather have a dana 60 solid front axle). The 7.3L diesel is a non turbo engine unless someone has added an after market kit. The engine is extremely simple and dependable. Though not overloaded with power it is a capable tow machine. I have towed a dump trailer with 5 tons of rock and I was surprised by how well it did. Overall they are good trucks not loaded with HP but has good torque. I have 230,000 miles on mine and the motor is strong.

Sounds pretty good to me, Never heard anything bad about 7.3 L engine, Tow package and all.

If you just need it for ocassional use, not daily driver, definitly enough truck.
Leave the utility body, good for stowing tools and equipment, just don't overload it, which is easy to do with single wheels. They are heavy and will take away a little of your total GCWR, you still have plenty of reserve for what you need and the diesel wont feel it. I would just get rid of the rack.

Price seems about right. Is it clean inside?

Good luck, JB

Don't know. The guy said there was a tear on the driver's seat, which is typical. But he's sending pics tomorrow of the interior.

Towing will be occasional but could be a daily driver in the winter months due to 4wd.

Thanks for input guys.

Had several of that age and with the engine/tranny set up good old truck just no speed racer. If you need a 4x4 truck and like a simple diesel truck to work on good old truck. If you want a modern new truck keep looking or get a gas burner. If your worried about the condition of the seat your probbly not looking at the right parts.

My parents had the equivalent of an F-450 dually with that engine, a 5 speed stick and a masons dump.
They ended up rebuilding the starter, replacing the glow plug relay and replacing a brake line. Look into that stuff before looking at the seat.

Make sure that it is off and COLD when you get there so that you can see how it starts when cold.

Oh, I don't care about the seats. As long as it doesn't hurt to drive, I don't care!

The seller told me that he replaced the starter and the glow plugs a few weeks ago.

I've heard of folks putting some sort of dually extensions on the rear wheels on these trucks. Is that a good idea? As far as the bed goes, I really don't need the utility bed and will most likely look to sell it and get what I can out of it. Hopefully, that would cover the cost of the dually conversion and getting another bed.

Thanks again folks.

Save your money on the dually extension kit. That truck will pull the tractor that you would like to tow with no problems as is. You'll be well under the tow rating for that truck as is, there's no need to add dual rear wheels. Plus the dually extension kits don't give you all of the benefits of a true dual rear wheel axle, and for what you want to tow you simply don't need the extra weight bearing capability. Plus with a dually you have a host of other issues like parking, going through drive throughs, etc. And if you want it for a good 4x4 for getting you through the snow, a dual rear wheel setup will likely only decrease your snow capability.
