I have close to the same trailer, side rails look the same. I trailer my BX23 with the bh and use straps hooked to the side rails. Never had a problem with it.

I do have brakes on both axles, hope yours does.

I'm not so sure the small channel won't work on a light duty utility trailer if additional side braces are also added. (flat stock going from the 90 degree part of the channel to the trailer at about a 45 degree angle) The sides of the light duty utility trailers are only 1/4" angle anyway. That is why they have to have the additional support of the upper railing for support from flex. I'd say that with additional flat stock as I mentioned above, giving the pocket 4 places to attach to the side angle of the trailer, the attachment point will be as strong as the trailer will handle.

Why not weld-on grab hooks?

I like the grab hook idea!!
I make D rings outta 3/8 round rod.Make your 90 deg. bends with a half inch pipe and the D part with two bolts clamped upright in a vise.Or just bang it around with a BFH....
