Need advice on a good 2 axle utility trailer

The 6 1/2 x 10 would give you more cargo area for things like furniture, hunting gear, etc. I noticed the Big Tex has a 3500# axle with brake flanges. Maybe if you already have a brake controller for the bigger trailers getting brakes on that one would make sense IMO.

I agree that a 6.5 wide gives more haul capacity...I believe that the OP said that he had some larger trailers though..The one nice thing about the 5' wide trailer is that it is pretty much the exact width of a full size pick up..So you don't really need to watch the width behind you in tight areas. Each has it's place I guess.

Mine has a 2999# gross and I've had it loaded to that many times and never had an issue stopping it..One has to behave though.

Think out the trailer carefully. I see guys all the time wanting to trade in single axle trailers for the simple fact that they are either too short or too narrow. 9 times out of 10 times its the width. Many are buying ZTR's now days and the decks on them are usually in the 60" cut range. This means you will need somewhere around 64" of width to load them.

True, but I believe the OP said he already owned larger trailers and was looking for a general use utility...There are times when you need a big trailer and other times...Not so much...That's why SWMBO asks why I have both. :D:D:D:D

Trust me, I agree 100%. I just wanted to get him thinking ahead. To me for this type of trailer I would want a 8' long by 6'4" wide unit. This seems to be the common unit around here. Trailers seem to be 60" (5'), 76" (6'4"), or 82" (6'10") wide.

This is exactly my concern right now. I'm debating between 5' and 6' trailers. I have future plans to purchase a 60" ZTR... and would like to haul it on the trailer. It will be a Kubota. I'm unsure of their width with the deflector removed.

I would prefer the 5' width because of width same as vehicle. However I don't want to have something that's too narrow for hauling something like a ZTR. I plan to keep this trailer for a long time so it needs to be well thought out... :fortuneteller:

This is exactly correct. My only concern is getting a trailer that's too narrow. A 6' x 12' is sounding pretty good to me.

I have a 5' by 8' utility trailer with a drop gate that I bought used for $300.00....it is a Hooper brand trailer ...and I recommend that you pick a trailer that has at least 15 inch. tires...mine does..and I looked at others at the big box stores and elsewhere with the little spindly tires and was not impressed...whatever you have on the trailer rides on the tires and I noticed no one else had mentioned tires...just be sure it is at least 5' wide for hauling larger mowers and has the larger tires....

I have a 6 1/2 x 10 Friesen Brand. They are made in Oklahoma, pretty well made. The only comment I have is get the 3500lb axle and 12' is nice if you ever haul sheet goods like drywall. Purchased mine used, but if purchasing new would purchase 6 1/2' x 12, 3500 lb axle, and a folding tailgate due to wind-drag.

Well guys I got my trailer. :jump:

It's a CornPro 6x12 utility. Very well made. High quality components including Dexster Axles and Wheels! Also has Goodyear tires! My CornPro contact made me an offer I couldn't refuse! This thing will last me a lifetime. Plus it looks real good next to my CornPro equipment trailer!
