Need advice on dog "training" treats.

I use Taste Of The Wild dog kibble and Blue Wilderness treats. Training with very small treats works, period, I have trained three German Shepherds with a clicker and small treats, I am just now weening my seven month old off of the treats and he couldn't care less that there is no treat anymore. He also gets a "Pork Chomps rawhide free" treat in the early evening to give him something to do and he really enjoys chewing on them for hours on end.

Also use cheerios for potty training boys.
Throw a few in the toilet and let the boy target practice.

each dog is different even within the same breed......what works for one may not work for another........in general I have found that the more dominant or independent the dog is the higher the quality of treat is needed.....for our kuvasz and pyrenees which are very headstrong I always carried around a bag of cooked chicken pieces........for the wolfhounds most of the time excessive praise was reward enough.......keep the training periods short.......always end on a high note no matter how small the thing that they do is.......go back to the simplest task that you know they can succeed with when you end so the last thing they remember is positive.........and never use negative enforcement no matter how frustrated you get........the most important thing is for you and the dog to have fun.....enjoy your pup!.....Jack

Tractor supply has dried beef livers. Tm.

My dog who is very picky likes venison lung. You have to limit organ meat. How much is a problem, dunno.

My dog won't eat carbs. Sometimes cheese.

Having been owned by a Border Collie and a Corgi I realize that most of the "training" will be them training us.
And I'm not meaning I'm going to try and train the subject to "roll over" "stand on your hind legs" etc. I'm more concerned with things like "it's safe, please quit barking and thanks for warning us", "come here please", "calm down, it's fireworks", "thank you for using the outside facilities" etc.
Pup-Peroni sounds good, if I don't eat too much.

Never ever, get a strong dog. I doubt you will be able to train a wuss of a dog. You don't ask your dog please. I am a dog person, sleep with multiple dogs. They run my life. But I do not ask them please. You tell the dog what to do. Try not to let them know, you are unsure.

I know that all dogs are different and that some will require different methods of training. I have a hard headed, some what stubborn, highly active and intelligent Black Mouth Cur. He a 3 1/2 year old neutered male named MF Jones. We got him as a rescue at 9 mo. old. Soon after, he became over protective and have been working with him ever since. It really helped that I have retired and am now able to spend a lot of quality time with him.

What I have learned is that he really don't care about food or treats as much as he wants your approval. If he does something wrong, a simple disappointed sounding "No" is all that it takes to make him understand his behavior was wrong. He will then do everything in his power, correct behavior, to get that "Atta boy!" approval. Snacks and treats are for later when we're just sitting around. This dog is not a food hound.

It is important to know that dogs such as this are very sensitive and that harsh punishment could turn him into a fearful, aggressive dog. You don't want that. Ignoring his presence after some poor behavior is more than enough to set him straight.

i am a serious trainer for 47 years and i never train for food - only praise. food is a gimmick and they work for food - you want them to work because they like to and they get praise and the relationship with you is what they thrive for. only free info i will give.

Thumbs up on this post. I have never trained with treats and think it's a distraction from the training itself. Our dogs are given table scraps outside in their eating area. They don't look for food elsewhere.

I don't have a clue what all this swmbo or mess means, but do what old Black and Dagna said. Consistency and trusting you, that'll work. And, PLEASE do no use Hecho en Chine, Mehico, etc. food or snacks. That's all.
