I want to have some clevis hooks welded on my loader bucket. Can anyone give me some advice on how many and what size. I have a heavy duty 4" X 30' tow strap and I plan on using it to move rocks around for walls as well as lifting balled trees for planting. I don't think the strap loops will attach very well to 3/8" hooks normally used for chains so I probably need to install at least one hook in a larger size. I might use a chain on occasion but chains can be nasty when they break so I generally avoid using them except to pull logs from behind. Many thanks.

I use a strap like you describe. I hook mine to the cast hinge on the back of the bucket. Don't tell anyone but I have even moved small round bales that way! With a sig pic like mine, do you really think I am ALWAYS safe?

But really, it has worked well for me..

I would try that before welding, you might at least get a better idea what you'd like that way....

A pretty common method is to have a weld on 3/8" hook aligned with each arm and a slip hook in the center for things like straps, etc.

A good place to find weld on hooks is AW Direct.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It seems logical to me that you might want to reinforce the top edge of the bucket along the full length, then have a technician or fabircator weld on "C" or "H" channels with drilled holes that would take a 1/2" or 5/8" pin. That way you could simply pin either hooks or clevises onto the top edge of your bucket depending on your use. It's hard to explain, but I can see it clear as day in my imagination /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Good idea -bigpete /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif It would have to be fairly thick and deep C channel as to not bend and have enough room behind the pin for the strap

I would have to reccomend a set of pallet forks..I use them more than the bucket, many more uses..

I install two pieces of angle iron on the top to give strength to the top of the bucket, then I install two large hooks on the outside for straps and a close hook in the center for chains.

It works well for me

Thanks everyone for your advice. BTW, I located some neat weld-on hooks at: CM Industrial
A little on the pricey side - $44 for a 1 ton but I think it will look better than a std clevis welded on. Local company claims most folks have only one on their buckets, located in the center. I will go that route for now and add more if necessary.
