If the main shaft is curved that is a problem. It should be straightened or replaced. Shafts are usually not very expensive even if special made - the problem is usually getting them out and and the new one in.

If the blades are damaged that is also a problem but they can be straightened. I would also seriously look at replacing the shaft bearings if you have the shaft out anyway. they are cheap and if you already have them out.......

Check bearings.

Check to see if the drum is out of shape.

Check the gear box.

Check to see if the augers are bent.

Personally, I think you'll be better served by an older McKee/New Ideal/John Deere and many others that where made by McKee for folks. Here is my 60s something McKee in action from 5:26 onward.

Thanks to all for your help. I have two small videos (29 seconds or less) one of each blowers. Like mentioned before, I cannot figure out how to post them. I never used YouTube either although I could learn if it's the only way. Any hint would be appreciated.

The snowblower photos in post #2 do not look like a Pronovost to me. I would say that blower is probably an Allied or perhaps a Ber-Vac.
I cannot identify the second blue and yellow blower but it looks like a little less blower the the one in post #2.
It looks to me like both have been used pretty hard and are fairly beat up but might be alright for a bit if repaired. Check anything that turns for bends and wobble, and the gearbox very carefully for any sign of a spun bearing or other problem.
One other note about the first blower is in my experience with the high auger and steep cutting edge that type is very hard to push.

I'm no help on posting vids, but I wanted to chime in on which blower to buy. I think the better bet is the one with curved auger. A gentle bow like that is an easy fix. Unbolt the two end bearings and the auger falls right out. Support the ends on a couple blocks and push down on the high point - push on the pipe, not the flights. It will only need a couple hundred pounds to start bending it down. Go a bit past so it springs back to straight. Check it with a string (see this thread). Anything within 1/4" is good enough. The fan blades can be straightened in place with a pipe wrench or something similar.

I've straightened mine when it got bent. I set it up in my garage door opening and used a hydraulic jack with a post up to the door header. Worked perfectly. Snowblowers are simple machines - no drama.

Have fun, Dick B

Actually, it is 3 videos!!

The first one is for the Pronovost and was done by the actual owner in april very wet snow.

The two other videos are for the el cheapo with the curved auger. As mentionned, that yellow and blue blower breaks bolts when the load gets heavy.
