Need advise on how to keep Black Snakes out of my Chicken Shack Please!

I have used plastic Easter Eggs in the same fashion. I killed a snake 2 years ago with the plastic egg inside it...

Find where they're getting in and dump powdered chalk-line chalk in the hole (any color but black). You will no longer have black snakes in the chicken coop.

I relocated two chicken snakes this week that were feeding well off of my chickens. Before locating and catching them I decided to use a hot wire system around the hutches. The way I see it is I can run two wires, one pos, one neg, and all I have to do is keep them far enough apart that the chickens can touch both of the at the same time. A snake on the other hand will be able to touch both wires at the same time and learn to dance.

I've had chicken snakes bite me before but it was my fault. The biggest one I've relocated was about six feet.

I really can't believe all the recommendations to kill highly beneficial snakes when it would be so simple to make a snake proof facility for the chickens...

Sorry but IMO this just proves "you can't fix stupid"...

I've grown up on this farm, where I still live. That's over 50 years of first-hand experience. We don't currently have laying hens, but, in the past, we had them for generations. I've NEVER seen a "snake-proof" chicken coop.

Using the fake eggs, you will only kill the guilty party. If it doesn't eat your eggs, it can happily co-exist.

I don't consider myself stupid if I kill a predator that attacks my farm animals.

No such thing as a beneficial snake. While I understand that there are those out there who like snakes, I'm not one of them and I treat them like all other pests that interfere with my enjoying the outdoors. I do what I can to keep them away, and when they get too close, I kill them. Same with hogs, armadillos, gophers, mice, rats, spiders, mosquitoes, ants and everything else out there.

when the snake fights you in the hen house you will kill them.when i had hens i only had to kill 2 or 3 snakes in the henhouse.i sure didnt let them go free.
