Tiller Need Advise on Plow Size

I am new here. Are you guys all have hard clay soil ? I pull a 4-14 with a branson 6530 with no problem at all and could probably take a 4-16.

Makes sense!

That's part of the reason I went with the gear drive (790) over a hydrostat, I'm "old school" on tire size, seems like all the JD hydros have shorter rear tires. I just bought it in late April, so I haven't had time to build a plow yet. I have 14" JD plow bottom off an old #810, just need to make a frame for it. ~~ grnspot110

I bought a nice Dearborn two bottom plow....and the model number on the tag and the guy I bought it from both claimed it was 2x14" bottoms. When I measured....it had 16's.....which pull ALLOT harder.

Rather than take it back.....I kept the plow because it was so darn nice. I have light / sandy soils.....so when I hooked it to my JD 790.....I pulled it very nicely! I could plow deep....but dont as my soil gets pretty sandy when I plow deep. I just use it on occasion to break the sod.

Plowing is fun. :D I think (hope) that the new 3320 will pull the plow around like nobody's biz....it has bigger tires and much more weight....but they are industrials.
