Okay... I noticed from the parts manual that the front wheels don't have wheel bearings like autos. Will that be a problem as the machine ages or will they wobble in time?

Mike

There are a lot of post on the board from a lot of members who own CC 2500 series tractors and I never heard this mentioned by any of them .

LBrown59,

Why are you confused? Seemed like a legitimate question to me! The wheels have a straight shaft and are held in place with a large flat washer and a cotter key. That seems like a pretty cheap way to build it - especially on a part that gets side stress from turning.

1*Don't know just sorta seemed like a rather odd concern to me seein as how I'd never seen any body bring up that point before.
2*And probably no different than JD Kubota Simplicity and the dozzens of other Manufacturers.

My 2542 is about one year old and has 52 hours on it. The third hood has now cracked its mounts and I am negotiating with the dealer to call this tractor a lemon and get something else. This is because the factory keeps talking about various fixes that are not fixes. If I have the user privileges, I will start a new thread on just this issue (cracking hoods) which seems to affect the 2500 series.

One rarely mentioned benefit of going to a dealer is that they may have a used 2000/2500 series in trade in. That is how I got my 2138. I went to the dealer with the intentions of getting a 1045 due to money constraints, but for less money, I got the 2138 which is a much better tractor even at 4 years old. The dealer also agreed to 30 days free parts/repair if anything went wrong. I am happy to say that they honored that agreement when the pto wiring needed replacement. If the dealer has a used model available you can probably get it for much less than a new one (can you say attachments).

I am not aware of any of these types of tractors having roller bearings such as used in a car. There are replaceable ball type bearings pressed in to the wheel assemblies of the 2500 series front wheels, and they include grease fittings.

Tractor wheels have either bearings or nylon bushings.
The nylon bushing are on the low end box store tractors and the bearings are used on the dealer tractors.
All the tractor factories buy their wheels from the same wheel manufacturer(s) so it don't matter which brand tractor you buy you get the same wheels.

Yep and if you're lucky, you'll get one with the wobble built into the wheel free of charge! (front rim with the hub welded not concentric with the wheel)

if I'm not mistaken there are bearings on my 2554. Been a year next month, 55 hours, doing the yard tomorrow. Yes, the oil drain valve sucketh, and wish the fuel tank was larger, that's about it. Other than that, well satisfied.
