Doggone that's some serious tilling there!

Alright so looking at Kubotas website it looks like they discontinued the m5040 and now have the M5140 with a smaller displacement but turbo engine, and also planetary gears. Comparing with the 50e Deere they look pretty close, slightly lighter but with the hydraulic reverser type tranny available. I like both of these tractors, haven't sat on the 5140 yet but it looks pretty good. Anyone know how the power compares to the 5055?

dntfxr,
Rereading your posts I suspect a large compact cab tractor Deere or Kubota would be a good choice. For most of what you need to do a 6' brush cutter and a 6' or 7' tiller would be a good fit. I don't see where a larger tractor size with the same hp or less is an advantage for you.

When you start checking the prices of the larger brush cutters and implements the price goes up fast. I recommend you compare the costs of a 6' cutter to an 8' cutter.

I would suggest you try out a 4520 or 4720 cab tractor or similar Kubota model with the hydro transmissions. Alot of what you will be doing is backing in and out of pockets of brush and weeds to clean up initially combined with loader work, boxblading and similar tasks the hydro tranny will be the easiest to use. I grew up in Louisiana and can vouch for the cab, first time you brush hog over a Yellowjackets nest you will appreciate the cab.

My M5040 has a turbo!!! Ill talk to my salesman and ask what the difference is,today. Not saying anything about JD but the kubota by far has the better operators platform, out of the 2 you mentioned. If I remember right the JD was alittle stouter on the loader.Specs Jd5055e-9f&3r gears,3cyl(179cu.in)55hp engine and 45hp pto, tractor weight 5070lbd.
Specs.KubotaM5140-8f&8r gears,4cyl(158cu.in)52hp engine and 46hp pto,tractor weight 4650lbs

Haha yeah I know about yellowjackets already unfortunately! I had to unazz our old ford3600 when I found them LOL. I'd love a cab tractor I just don't know if I can put that kinda coin into one. But it may be worth it. Really the bigger utility tractors caught my eye because of price, they are cheaper than a similar 4x20 Deere seems like. But I still have time to figure it all out.

I don't know if you've looked at the Kioti yet, but if there is a dealer near you take a look. I just got the DK50SE HST with Cab and FEL. I added a WR Long Root Grapple since I'm doing a lot of clearing. With my property in SC, having that Cab is great! When the wasps are hitting it I just keep on cutting. I'm pulling a 6ft New Holland 717 roatary cutter and not having any power issues. I found that the price was quite a bit less then Kubota or JD for the options. I also have a Kubota L35 TLB so I didn't get the backhoe.

I have been on several cab tractors, but I currehntly own a 48HP JD 4320 only because I can't afford the cab. However, I can assure you that when I can afford a cab, I will own a cab. :D:D

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'm gonna look into all options. I just talked to my realtor and my house may be worth a little more than I was thinking so it may work out for a small cab tractor possibly. What are the 4520 with cab and power reverser going for??

Nevermind, looks like a cab requires ehydro tranny

Hosspuller, good points. I bet a 5000# tractor can handle round bales a whole lot easier on the loader. And I don't want to overwork another tractor like I have been the last week or so with the little B. I went back today to the Deere dealer and looked at them again. He didn't have any 4x20s but I sat on the 5055e and the 4105. I still don't really care for the 4105 but the 4005 really seems a little better built. I dont think the tranny is even synchronized though. I also figured out the turning radius is better on the smaller 5000e than the big 5000 limited. The website shows them all at 14.3' but the brochure says the 5045-5075e do 11.6'. I can live with that. Honestly for the money I dont think i can convince myself to go with the 4000 over the 5 at this point. I wish I could get powerreverser on it but the syncshift doesn't seem too bad. I'm thinking the 5055 would be nice for the extra hp over the 45 too. Man, decisions decisions...

the 4005 is synchronized. great little workhorse.
