In most cases its best to purchase the Back Hoe with the machine. Most cash incentives and better, financing terms will make it the best price unless you get lucky and find someone selling the correct model later on which rarely happens.
For many the cost of a backhoe doesn't add up but for lots of us the rental of a hoe or mini excavator along with the time frame involved makes not only a pain in the butt but actually more costly. Adding the local rental yards cost up and the amount of days I have used my Backhoe I would have spent far more by now on rentals compared to my actual cost when buying. This dosnt even take into consideration the time and gass that would have been wasted going in to pick up and return the rental There is also a lot to be said for being able to just go do what you want to/ need to when the time arises and not have to wait till the rental is available or build up enough jobs to make a rental feasible.
So true... The process of renting totally sucks. Dug a trench last weekend to extend a downspout that was flooding my yard. Took two days, doing it leisurely. If I was renting, it would have been so stressful. First trying to beat everyone to the rental yard on Saturday morning, then rushing to finish the job to get it back on time. Renting a dump trailer is an even worse experience. I bought my BX25-TLB because I was sick and tired of renting things. I havn't regretted buying the BH for a moment. Even when I'm not engaging the ground with it, it's a fantastic counterweight for snow plowing and FEL work. When I've needed it, it's been indispensable.
