hydraulic supplies are all over North Carolina!

You see that big empty space in the middle with no red dots anywhere near it - yep, that's where I live... BUT, I did call a half-a-dozen tractor dealers around here on a tip and asked where they get fittings in a pinch and I think I may have a place about 20 mins away. Going this afternoon to talk to them.

"Are you putting the new control valve between the pump and the loader valve?"

That was the initial plan, yes. The 3rd function control valve has its own pressure relief, so my understanding from my research is I would be safe doing this.

This could also be 30 degree flare fitting.

So now we have a third contender. I'm just going to buy a digital caliper while I'm out and I'll measure tonight. I've *heard* they are BSPP fittings, but according to the links provided, BSPP doesn't have a flare like that. Just amazed/frustrated these manufacturers produce *zero* documentation on their parts, the dealers know nothing and apparently I'm the first to try this? (worrisome as well)

NCFarm,
The 30 degree flare or cone is called JIS cone seat and has BSPP threads.

3/8 or -6 3/8-19 thread Male 21/32 (.656) OD Female ID 19/32 (.594)

1/2 or -08 1/2-14 thread Male OD 13/16 (.813) Female ID 3/4 (.750)

These look very similar to JIC 37 degree but like stated earlier they will not interchange.

For added confusion on my Branson they used the 30 degree cone for the hydrostatic cooler lines and power steering. Used mix of JIS 30 degree & JIC 37 degree for most of the FEL lines.

This might explain why some people are saying it's BSPP, but it looks like JIC.

OK. I measured these on the female end and I'm getting 0.691" - so that would mean its either a JIC -8 37 deg or SAE -8 45 deg, right?

Sure sounds like it; I'd bet JIC, I haven't heard of any tractors using THAT particular "SAE" fitting, but I've been wrong at least ONCE in the last 74 years :D

If you have some kind of protractor, or a sliding square, you should be able to (if accessible) hold it up to the male flare's edge and see if the 45* side is lined up with the hose - if it's exact, it's a 45 - if it's off, it's one of the other two possibles. Thread pitch on that size is 3/4-16 on both the JIC and SAE, and 3/4-14 on the JIS.

If your eyesight's good enough, you could count the threads in 1/2" (not likely that area is 1" long for that size) - if you get 7 threads in EXACTLY 1/2", it HAS to be the JIS - if you get 8, you'll need to figure out the bevel angle somehow... Steve

Actually, I forgot - if you're sure about the .691" inside, it's down to finding what angle the bevel is since they're BOTH the same thread pitch...

This is the male end... I counted 6 threads total, 0.732" OD - still trying to locate a protractor to figure out the angle. Haven't used one since grade school... also a bit concerned with that corrosion on the inside.

I wouldn't worry much about the corrosion; these only seal on the bevel part, so it's pretty easy for rainwater to get to the threads - I've cleaned dozens of JIC's up with a fine wire brush on the threads, shined up the bevel with gray scotchbrite, they never leak. If it sits out in the rain a lot, maybe dab a little never-sneeze on the threads when reassembling.

The bevel on that one looks a LOT like a 45, but I'd take that fitting with you if you're gonna get some hoses made, kind of a spendy mistake if you're wrong - also, if you can't find a protractor you could slip a round rod into the hole on the male end (as snug a fit as possible), then hold the square end of a ruler against the bevel so that the length of the ruler runs toward the far end of the inserted rod - if you can hold all that steady, then for every inch you get from the fitting, the ruler whose end is against the bevel should be an inch further from the inserted rod. It's just like roofing; a 12/12 pitch is 45 degrees.

BTW, a 37 degree angle is almost exactly 9/12 pitch - so there's a little "wiggle room" in this endeavor and STILL probably get it right... Steve

Certainly looks like JIC to me- Take a look at our thread guide:

https://www.discounthydraulichose.com/mm5/thread_guide.pdf

Page 4 is JIC

IMHO, it is unlikely that you are dealing with JIS threads, but it always is a possibility, but unlikely....

If you aren't handy with calipers- you can always get a few JIC tube plugs to confirm sizes.

Let me know what I can do to help.
