Tractor
Kioti DK45 SE HST
I have been researching extensively for a tiller. I have a Kioti DK45SE HST about a month old and love the tractor. I found a woods TC74 on sale this weekend at the place where I purchased the tractor for $2100. The local Kubota dealer has the same tiller for $2550. Its a chain driven tiller. The local tractor supply stores carry a Tartar brand that's $1999. It is gear driven. I have seen a guy on here Ken Sweets that sells the tartar and his tillers can be pretty easily converted to till in reverse. Does the Tractor Supply tillers by Tarter the same ones sold by Ken Sweets? Or are they also reversible? Is that a good price on the Woods TC74? Which would be the better deal? I was not able to find a King Kutter II in the area to compare prices with. Please help as I am ready to get this today.

Thanks,

If you like the dealer as much as you like the tractor, go back there and buy his $2100 tiller. The TC74 is a big and heavy enough tiller that you probably won't have a reason to reverse it's direction.

Cant help you with the specific units or pricing but I bought a 49" Phoenix tiller made in Italy. It is chain driven and cost me about $1500. Before I bought it I thought I should get a reverse tiller. But this is not a reverse tiller and it does a terrific job on my heavy clay soil.

Looking again at the prices you mentioned, my advice is buy the unit from the Kioti dealer, rather than a King Kutter brand for $200 less.

There is a correction the dealer just informed me that he made a mistake the woods tiller is $2700. That's a big difference. My local Kubota dealer has it for $2550 so its either that one or the Tartar brand. Oh and a local guy has the same woods that he bought last year that he says has about 10 hours on it for $2200. I wish I had some reviews on the tartar. I wish I knew why the woods with chain drive is so much more than the Tartar with gear drive though. Is it that much better?

I am real tempted to just go and pick up the $2550 tiller locally and call it a day. Thoughts please.

Or, if you can find a Priefert dealer locally, here's mine

6' Rotary Tiller

Made in Texas (except maybe the gearbox, not sure) and does a great job in my clay as well.

One thing you may want to consider tho - unless your hst has a low enough range to keep tractor speed below 1 mph at pto speed, you might be better looking for a reverse tine tiller for finer tilth.

I use mine (forward tine) behind an old Allis-chalmers 160 with a slow low range, at 0.6 mph, and it's ideal for the job... Steve
