need help getting wifi and broadband working

He uses Sprint broadband when out of the office for internet access. When in house or at home he uses the local wireless network instead of Sprint. He is having trouble switching from one to the other.

though for the last 30 hours it is behaving correctly.. WEIRD!

The software for the aircard needs to also take control of the WiFi connection.

I think this is the problem...

Generally,Window's applications look for "any available" when seeking an internet connections i.e., web browser, mail client etc. etc...

In order to maintain a connection the client computer must maintain an IP address (usually assigned by a modem/router/accesss point)...when the computer is switched between ISPs (i.e., sprint/DSL) the IP address must also be switched...Windows is not always good at recognizing that a new/different ISP is connected and does not always release and renew the IP address...

Ususally restarting the computer will accomplish the task or it can be done manually several different ways... there are automatied batch programs that have desktop interface shortcuts or it can be done from a command line interface... (from a CLI enter "ipconfig -h quotes)

Another alternative is to manually set up the connections for each service provider and assign both preferred DNS servers as well as IP, Subnet, and Gateway data...(not sure if this can be done with the Sprint service)

Did you mean

ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew

Those work for most any windows system..

well, all looks good.. I have used the laptop on broadband all day.. ow here at home I turend wifi back on.. it found the network and auto connected in about 20 seconds.. and is downloading some java software in he ackground.

not sure what the issue was the other night.. but ( fingers crosed / knock n wood ) seems to be ok now.
