Take a jumper wire and clip it on the positive side of the ignition coil and put the other end on the positive side of the battery. Crank engine and if it starts, there is a break in the wire from the ignition switch to the coil. If it doesn't then you either have a bad coil or the points are burned out. Report back after you do this and we can go from there. What is the brand of engine and if necessary, I can send you to the correct engine group for further assistance.
