Tractor
Kubota L-185, L-225
Please help ID this loader. It's mounted to my L-225. Stickers say Kubota but may not be accurate as the whole tractor has been repainted. One of the curl cylinders is leaking so I'd like to rebuild them. For the record, this unit has to use an auxiliary pump mounted to the front of the crankshaft and a remote reservoir because the L-225 hydraulic system is inadequate. I'm sure that it wouldn't require the auxillary parts on a tractor that had strong enough hydraulics.

Hi, and welcome to TBN. Unless you've had experience rebuilding hydraulic cylinders the wise path it probably to take both to a local hydraulic shop to be rebuilt. The price for them doing the rebuild may only be a little higher than purchasing an off the shelf rebuild kit - if such a thing exists in this instance.

I always take cylinders off, disassemble, take to the hydraulic guy, he gives me the guts for it. He has never been concerned with the brand. Never asked and I never tell.

Another option is to check the surplus section of the Surplus Center's site for a replacement cylinder. I found matching lift cylinders to replace a damaged cylinder for a Kubota loader for a very reasonable price and they were even painted orange.

Appears to be the Kubota L1200 loader.

Trying to rely on my dealership days. In the 70's & 80's, Kubota and Ford (New Holland) both used basically the same loader. IIRC, they were built by Schwartz and had a lot of parts that were the same. I know that we used cylinder kits from Kubota in Ford cylinders and visa-versa. We has cross reference sheets in our loader parts books. It's been TOO many years to be able to give you any kind of number info. Sorry. I do remember that to remove the piston from the rod, you would need to put a drift punch into the lower hyd hose fitting to hold the piston while using a bar in the pin hole of the rod to unscrew the piston from the rod. And when reassembling, you needed to loosely assemble the rod, packing kit and piston and then install in to the barrel. And using the drift punch again, tighten the piston to the rod. Hope that this makes sense.

Thanks for all the good info and advice. I took all of the outside measurements hoping to find a rebuild kit online without taking it apart. I may just take them to someone for the rebuild. I have a surplus catalog and could probably match the dimensions but I was unsure of the weight rating.
Thanks again, you all gave me much to think about.

Appears to be the Kubota L1200 loader.
I researched the L1200 and you are correct. I was able to find a spec sheet and guidance for cylinder disassembly. I was surprised to see that this model was designed for the auxiliary pump an dedicated reservoir. I had assumed it was a previous owners adaptation to make it work on the L225. Still, no model id on my unit. Thanks for your input. It was very helpful.
