You had better get that in writing. I have checked with several insurance companies about my tractors, and they have all stated that a separate rider HAS to be issued for these items. They are not covered under our homeowners or our farm policy.

Same thing for items like cameras and jewlery. They all need separate coverage.

I to can confirm this. I have Allstate which only covers something like $2000 worth of lawn and garden equipment on their base policies. I had to add a rider to my policy at around $50 a year to get $20000 worth of lawn and garden coverage. Well worth it to me.

grsthegreat,

The information quoted in my last post was sent/documented via email directly from my Liberty Mutual Agent, i.e., "As long as the John Deere 鍍oys are paid for in full (not leased or financed) they are covered under personal property. If not, you would need a separate policy for them, which we do not provide. The loader, snow & belly items are insured as personal property."

The email was in direct response to an initial email sent by my wife identifying our JD CUT and all the attachments to include make/model + followed-up with a general discussion surrounding CUTs & their overall coverage. It appears Liberty Mutual may offer different coverage, we have our Home & Auto through them. The email from our agent is now in our Safety Deposit Box along with our Insurance Policies.

A lot of this varies from company to company and then from state to state. It also could be there is "very limited coverage" and they are telling you to buy additional coverage. Then some policies will cover full value for say a fire but a much lower amount if stolen.

tractorhouse (link below)
Used Tractors For Sale at TractorHouse.com: John Deere Tractors, used farm tractors and farm equipment, tractors for sale, Case IH, New Holland, Agco, Kubota

has a database of stolen stuff. might be worth listing.

i live near a neighbor from ****. folks have seen this guy go into there sheds and just take stuff without asking. i would say get in your vehicle more so if you are out in the sticks. and start driving all nearby roads. and see if you can spot tractor from the road. say within 5 miles of your place. maybe a little further pending on were you live. also make sure you hit all back roads as well.

if you bought tractor new, along with loader / mower. it might be possible to tract it back via dealer you bought from or possibly manufacture. to atleast obtain serial number *shrugs* bill of sales or something.

==================
EDIT: if a nearyby neighbor has same like model (does not have to be exact) as you, they might of contacted someone to come pickup there tractor to take it in for repair.

if there was any thing broken / wrong with tractor. contact local repair places. or rather, take in a piece of paper and hopefully a photo of your tractor, if not photo from internet. photo might ring better than just a phone call. for a given part repair.

if your state required the tractor to have lisence plate. something there maybe.

================
EDIT:
for craiglist seach. use www.searchtempest.com allows you to search multi cities. in one shot. it might be quick way to search for model or brand or like.

I have recorded my serial numbers with John Deere, have photographs of each piece of equipment plus a separate photo of each serial number. Never can do enough.

The question to ask you insurance agent when they assure you it is covered under personal property is what is the limits of my personal property? Coverage does't do any good unless the limits are high enough to cover everything. Remember personal property usually includes everything in your house except the structure itself, cloths, tv, computers, etc. When you put a pencil to it there is a lot of money in our houses. Yes if only the tractor is affected you may be fine but what about a storm that destroys house, garage, shed, etc, now everything needs replaced. My agent keeps my larger value items jewelry, guns, tractor, etc on rider policies to make sure replacement value is there if needed. For the piece of mind the expense is very little. Also I work with insurance companies daily in my profession and its not your friendly agent that makes the decisions when it comes time for a claim. The adjusters are there to save the money for the company that the agents brought in.

Just my $.02
