Need HELP Plz! NH Won't Start~Battery Good

I am one and the same with the TZ25DA that has had intermittent fuel starvation problems....still does. Due to this, while mowing, engine began to vibrate, shutter violently, disengaged the PTO and she died anyway. Waited a few minutes, turned the key....NOTHING!!! No panel lights, no click, NUTTIN!
So I go inside start researching owner manual and think it may be a fuse. Checked all of the fuses in the block near the radiator and then went to the main fuse 40A and get it out. Got a replacement from NH dealer today. Plugged it in and still nothing!!! I have tested the battery and it is good. I have no head lights no nothing.

Of course husband is out of town and I have a tractor DOA in the field.
Any ideas?

I am a girl w/very limited mechanical knowledge....uh, pretty much none, :confused2: but I am willing to try if I think I can handle it.

Sorry for your problems. Did you try to jump start your tractor by using a jumper cable and another vehicle to use it's battery? do you have portable battery to jump start the tractor? Do you have a voltmeter to check battery voltage? and if so what do yo read on the voltmeter?

Thank you much for taking the time to help. I used a voltmeter and it read 12.67. I think that is sufficient e.g. good?? I haven't tried to jump start because I thought if battery is good, that wouldn't make a difference. But, again, I know NOTHING about all of this so maybe I am wrong. So frustrating.
Do you think I have done serious damage? Tractor has been well maintained, stored inside, only 3.5 yrs. w/230hrs.
I do appreciate your help, suggestions.

Karen, turn on the headlights (I know they don't work) to put some load on the battery and test with the voltmeter again. Your voltage of 12.67 is good, but testing with a load tells us more. It could be something like a bad battery terminal. Just guessing at this time. Keep asking questions and trying stuff. People here will help all they can.

Also you can pull each fuse out and test it with the Ohm meter (resistance) on your meter. It should read very low ohms (less than one Ohm). Put one lead on each end of the fuse. You know that you are on the Ohms scale if when you connect the leads together you get a low resistance reading (less than one Ohm.) Jump starting is good if you know how to do it.

I doubt if this is serious.

I'm not familiar with your rig and can only offer general and basic comments. Went to see your profile to see if there is any info about your tractor and could not find much. Can you tell us about your tractor, type of transmission (hydro ro gear), live or independent PTO. I'm thinking it might be some safety interlock, neutral safety that might keep the tractor from turning on, although if that were the problem you still would have had juice at the dash board display panel. Do you need to push the clutch all the way to start? Voltage is good but it only make sense under the load. Let say if you have a kid if you have to try to start while your reading the meter. if battery is bad, the reading will drop much. I'd try to at least try to jump it once to see what happens. Put the red jumper wire(positive) on the tractor terminal first and then black which is ground(negative), make sure the jumping vehicle is running , give it a few minute and then try to start the tractor to see what happens. when You take the jumper cables off reverse the order by taking black cable first and then red cable second.

I hope someone with more familiarity with your tractor to chime in as I'm making things up as I go. I can try to research it a bit after I know more about your tractor.

Thanks a bunch for suggestions. It is dark now, but I will go out in the a.m. and put my headlights on and then re-test the battery. Is an Ohm meter different than the voltmeter? Sorry for being so ignorant. I do know how to jump start and was going to try that this afternoon, but then after testing the battery thought that would be a moot exercise. Learning more all the time.

It is hydro gear and I think it is an independent PTO...I have a lever on the side that I use to engage the PTO. Thank you for the instructions re: jump starting. I have previous experience, but good to have a refresher course for sure.

Thank you, thank you for trying to help. I am bringing some horses home from the trainers and I need to get this resolved. The tractor is sitting in their pasture.

Your 1st post you stated that you disengaged the PTO quickly to try to keep engine from stalling.

Be sure and check to make sure that it is fully Disengaged, some units will not start with the PTO engaged (if the lever is not fully disengaged / pulled all the way back) the system may still think the PTO is still engaged.

That actually crossed my mind, but I don't know how to discern. Would that cause no lights, no nothing e.g. no panel lights etc.?? And, yes you are right, mine will not start with it engaged. I have moved the handle back and forth, but can't tell if it's engaged or not. :confused2:

How do I discern?

Karen, what you probably have is a multimeter. It has several functions. They include voltmeter and Ohm meter. Turn the large selector switch to Ohms (the symbol for Ohm looks like an upside down U with tails, kinda. The suggestion that you have the PTO on was also a good one. Maybe the tractor needs to be in neutral or the clutch needs to be pushed down to start. This would not explain why the lights don't work.
