Need Help: Precleaner for Ford 5900

Can anyone out there give me an idea or suggestion to replace the screen inside the canister for the oil bathe air filter system" I hope I'm making sense, this is a friends tractor". The New Holland dealer wants $500 plus dollars, they say you have to buy the whole metal canister. What happened was his screen inside of the canister came apart. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should be able to get a new piece of screen cut it to fit tight in canister then take a mig welder and fasten it in

I had suggested that, but he said it would be too hard to replace the screen inside the canister. I was hoping someone might have a used or salvage tractor parts place I could get a used one from.

Any way you could just remove the entire filter housing and install a aftermarket modern filter/housing. Stop by your local International truck dealer and ask to look at their filter catalog. In the back is a huge section of filter housing's. Name the length, diameter and inlet/outlet port size and they will have one to replace it with. Would probably be about 1/2 the price or less of the one NH wants to sell you one for. I use these type filter/housing's all the time to upgrade and replace ones on tractors and mobile equipment. Nice thing is you can upgrade your system by getting a filter housing with a much larger filter element that will last alot longer than the original one. Worth checking into considering the cost of a new one from NH.

You can also buy used filter housings.. cheap too. There are places that sell the metal mesh. Most of the times it is held in with a snap ring.. no need to 'mig' it in.

I have the address to the outfit that sells the oil bath metal mesh.. etc.
