Need help replacing loader joystick and cables on Branson 4020R With a BL25R Loader

Update...
Figured out that the Pin holds the cable adapter in place on the piston rod. I hate working on stuff like this without a repair manual... LOL... Will try putting everything together tomorrow. I've got good measurements of the threads so hope all goes well. I've spent a lot of hours on this only because of no documentation or how to do hints. Its really not that hard of a job but that said its not done and adjusted... I have to say my 4020R and BL25R loader doesn't require removing the hydraulic unit, It just takes removing a front panel and a floor panel. Its tight getting in to a couple screws and not a lot of wrench swing space but its doable. I started on the bottom cable because there's actually more room on the bottom one from under the tractor. Then the top one from under and above worked well. More tomorrow..
Thanks,
Ron

Morning;
I'm not sure that I'm following your description.
My 8050 with the BL50 loader may be different then yours but here goes;
at the valve end the small threaded end goes into a U shaped clevis and the small nut secures the clevis to the cable.
The clevis is attached to the valve spool by a small pin with a spring clip holding the pin.
The cable is secured to a plate by a pair of nuts which adjust the cable.
I can try and get a picture later if it sounds similar to yours.
Good luck getting it going.
With you and Cougsfan being old timers I can understand it being difficult to get under your tractor and work especially when the weather gets damp,
makes me glad to be younger :cool2: (I'm not 70 yet, only 67) :drink:

thanks for the manual. I couldn't find anything on the disassembly either, I've somewhat figured it out and now have to reassemble. I'm wondering if there might be a manual for the BL25R loader that would show how its done and adjusted if needed. I took some accurate measurements of the placement of the jam nut. hopefully that will be enough. If you have a link to the joystick replacement for the loader it would be appreciated!
Thanks again,
Ron

thanks for the answer. I think my connections to the pump piston may be different. There is a about a 1/4" (through the piston) pin that secures a round adapter (that the cable end feeds through) to the pistons. With a small nut that jams tight on the outside after you thread (screw) the cable end through the adapter. Hard to describe, will try and get a picture.. Simple I guess, doesn't look real sturdy but the weak link was the joystick having plastic bushings on the joystick inside studs. Will try and get a picture of that too. will get some picts and try to post here for the backyard mechanic. I could have used some for sure. I'm just thankful for the help I got here. Pretty much NONE from the Bronson dealers!
I'm off to start putting back together and some other stuff.
Thanks,
Ron

It is one of those jobs that takes forever the first time, and you could do it in 1/4 the time the second time around, mainly because you are guessing how things work and the fear of doing something stupid that is un-repairable. That said, nothing down there is "un-repairable", and it would be difficult to seriously screw something up. Keep your phone handy and take pictures, it may help in putting things back together.

Well Cougsfan, you are so right It took about 5-6 hours to put it all back together! I still have to reinstall floor plates and misc items I took off to access the hyd. pump and cable connections A lot of it, is having the right tools some are to short some are to long for every bolt, nut, hex screw, socket extensions, and very short sockets, some are just to big to get in tight places!. A lot of my time was finding a lot of tools I don't usually use. Several things are different about the cables I got a joystick / cable assembly (TA00035125A) Branson Genuine Part made by Kukje Machinery 1. The cables are much heavier duty, Thus a bigger diameter and stiffer. They are the same exact length as I think original that I removed, and the joystick mounts perfectly. One negative is the length of the 1/2" diameter threaded portion of both cables that connects to the pump adapters. The Large threads are quite a bit shorter than on the original cable. After setting the Large nut to the same length as the original bottom cable, I noticed the bottom adapter had unscrewed completely off the threaded part of the cable. I had to loosen it from the pump part way to get it to thread back on. I then couldn't get the right measurement of my previous cable adjustment. I looked at my joystick and it was obviously cocked to the right of center. I had my wife monitor it and I screwed the adapter until the joystick was centered and wasn't feeling "stiff" any more. Just so happens it was very close to the measurement of the top cable. It was about a 1/4" to 3/8" difference Than my other cable measurement and I was worried about it.
2. don't tighten the first adapter you put on down tight. After I did, I couldn't get the screws into the 2nd adapter as I couldn't get the 2nd adapter ring in flat to the pump. there is very little clearance of the top and bottom adapter rings to each other. Start all the Hex screws about 1/2 way first

That's about it, I crawled out and spent 2 hours looking for the key LOL, started it up and everything works great. Its strange the original top cable measurement was 18/32" and the bottom was 26/32" Now they are real close to the top original measurement. But, that suggests to me that both adapter are not screwed onto the threaded part of the cable as much as the other cable. I wish I had measured the length of the threaded section of the new cables but didn't. I hope that doesn't bite me in the future.

I'll post a few pics I took of the way the cables hook to the pistons when I get a few extra minutes. Hope this helps someone in the future!
Sorry if my descriptions are hard to understand, as others have said its not easy to do so. Especially without documentation.
Thanks every one for all the help!
Ron

Good to hear it's back and working,

I have had mine apart several times,
I split the phenolic block one time, took it apart and cobbled it to work, while my dealer ordered anew one.
Got a whole new assembly, installed it.
Split the block because it was so hard to get into float, new joystick didn't help.
Replaced the complete loader valve block, also warranty, still not good.
Dissassemble the old valve block and messed with detent springs, ordered several new ones finally got the float to work.
Then had a cable brake and had to swap one of the old cables in.
Fortunately mine is fairly decent to get to, still requires sitting on the ground and lying down under it.

Unfortunately I don't. I just managed to find the parts manual for the 15 (F) series.

thank you for the link to the service manual. Do you happen to have a parts manual as well?

Check with your dealer he may get a pdf of the parts manual.
Mine got me one for my 8050.
