Open the well head tap and let it run into bucket/barrel to get the volume that is produced. Time it to when the flow drops off. Should give an indication of well flow rate to check against pump size.:)

Upside down formation ??

I think I just have a low water volume... :( Yes its a submersible pump. The formation being upside down meaning the water producing sand layer was flip flopped with the clay layer, compared to most wells he drills in the area. Normally he puts more screen underneath the pump but on mine he had to put the pump at the very bottom and screen above it. He told me to backwash it a few more times with bleach and an air compressor and that will help dissolve some of the clay and probably give me more flow. I did that 3 times right after it was dug then let it run for several days untill clear and it eliminated the iron taste. I've been so busy with our move I just haven't had time to work with it till now. I may have just run it dry from letting it run to much lol!

What would be wrong with leaving a bottom hole sump, setting the pump lower and placing the screen on the pump intake?:)
Sand would fall down the sump with the pump shut off.:)

From what is described the screen should hold sand and eventually stop water from getting to the pump underneath???:)
Means it might also get difficult to pull the tubing and pump???:)
