Need help with a Yanmar 1300

Good evening

Have just joined this forum after buying a Yanmar 1300 compact with a yanmar 1000 rotovator, it decent nick and at a decent price.

Not this machine doesnt have linkage from what the guy was saying, which is fine i can get hold of that for a relatively cheap price as i want to buy a single furrow plough

However i need to work out how to detach the powered rotovator from the tractor as the connection looks complicated and i cant work out where i need to undo it.
It looks like its connected straight to the machine, the is no exterior drive shaft (if that makes sense)

I have one picture which doesnt really show the setup that well

Now once ive detached this , is the a plate of something i need to put over the box thing when the four bolts are removed?

The setup on your YM1300 is actually quite simple, though it is a bit of a pain to attach compared to a traditional 3 point attachment. There are 4 studs on the back of the tractor around the PTO output shaft. The tiller has an articulation that allows it to pivot up and down, and a female PTO connector inside a more or less square box that makes up one side of that joint.

Remove the 4 nuts holding that box onto the tractor, and the lifting links. Then pull on the implement and it will eventually slide off the studs and PTO shaft. It can be fairly difficult to remove; it has probably been on there for 30 years or more. Just be careful, as the implement needs to be forced off all at once, but it's not a bad system really: It produces an extremely compact unit of tractor and tiller, so is very user friendly.

Thank you 284 , that is a very straight forward and easy to understand reply. Have got some one with some long bars (socket set) to undo the nuts!. It looks like it has some new nuts and threads

Am thinking would it be good idea to raise the tiller place it on two pallets, undo the nuts, links etc and then drive the tractor forward, does that sound like a good idea?

Is the any risk of doing this?, or when it comes to reconnect it ?, i understand it may be hard to undo the unit as you say it certainly looks like it has been attached for a long time. I assume the PTO shaft inside will then need undoing?

Have been looking for second hand attachments, but they dont seem to be easy to come by here in the UK. Used the machine today on untouched ground and it really went through. Impressed with it!

Yours may very well come apart more easily; mine would not have come apart had I not tethered it to something solid the first time. The tiller isn't extremely heavy. You could probably lift one side of it at a time onto a pallet to keep it off the ground once it is removed.

I'm not trying to frighten you off from removing it, but mine is markedly harder to connect than a conventional 3 point tiller, mostly because the splined connections have to match up, but rolling the tiller back and forth also spins the the shaft, so it can be annoying to connect.

The PTO shaft doesn't have any retaining device. It simply slips into the female portion, and the entire apparatus is located and retained by the 4 studs.

You know your needs best, but especially with the tractor being 2 wheel drive, I am not convinced you will be happy trying to use a real plow. I don't know any UK store brands, but you may have some success buying and adapting a garden tractor sleeve hitch type plow: Sears.com

I envision a modified drawbar on your tractor with a sleeve hitch on the other end. Lift chains or links should be straightforward to adapt. The YM1300 is very light and lacks traction compared to even tractors a half step bigger or 4 wheel drive, but it will far outdo a garden tractor built on a lawn mower chassis. It is difficult to find implements that are properly matched.

Thats a shame, although from what i had read this tractor is at the bottom end of the power scale for use with a plough.
COMPACT TRACTOR SINGLE FURROW PLOUGH | eBay is what i had in mind (similar to yours)

However may rethink the plough idea as you say it is a light tractor!, however rotovator will have to come off for storage into a shed

Not much to add, just wanted to say hi! Nice to see another small Yanmar, especially in the north of England.

If you do fit a three point hitch, id be interested to see how you attach the lower arms as I don't think the mounting bracket will be there. Mine were attached in a wholly inadequate manner by the seller. I ended up teaching myself to weld so I could make my own lower link bracket.

Also, if you discover any parts suppliers I'd be grateful of the details.

Service items are ok, you just need to spend a bit of time cross referencing filters. Most other things are impossible to find this side of the Atlantic.

That will not be the case with any type of plow on your 2wd ultra-compact. They are just too light to get traction, and if you manage to find traction the front end will be off the ground. I would stick with the rotovator.
