Need help with traction - YM165 2WD Turf tires

I too had great luck with chains, used two sets to make one for the tractor, double the cross links, I used staight links not x's. I used chains for 15" car tires. I used aggressive ones with V-bars welded on the links, worked great on my little guy. Less aggressive chains would have worked well too.

I have also used "radial cable chains" look on Ebay with great results, much less aggressive though and did not hold up as well, still lasted years though!

I am now looking to get some R4's or truck tires (posted another thread) in the hope I can avoid the chains, as I am getting my driveway paved in a few days and don't want to be on it with chains, at least not right away.

I would look into either R4s or used SUV tires. But with a $200, this may be a hard number to work with. Have you considered selling the R3 tires after removing them? This will give you more cash to work with. My Yanmar 169d has R1 tires and it sure digs in. I have used it in mud and since my tractor is fairly light, it would damage our yard. Having weight on the back helps a lot but dont over load or you will have your front tires off the ground and have trouble steering.
