Need help with wiring on an Oliver Super 55

I am studying your hand made wiring diagram. Within the regulator you have a #1 terminal marked but I think it is an F. In your most recent post you talk about an F terminal and i just want to be certain your sketch 1 is the same terminal as the F

Can you plse check and advise.

Un-plug the wiring from both ends of the resistor and measure the resistance of the white ceramic resistor.

On the wire with the diode, can you check it to see which way your multi meter shows positive flows through it. To the regulator or to the alternator.

I have changed your wiring sketch to match the Delco one,

I am still trying to decide how best to handle terminal 4 on the regulator as it is the one with both the bulb and the 10 ohm resistance wire.

More thoughts. I think you need a small light bulb to replace the 10 ohm resistance wire. A #94 sold at places like Walmart. It will be around 12 ohms which is close enough.

You need to get a socket for the bulb so you have two wires to work with which are connected to the bulb.

If this is more bother for you and you think you can get it working yourself plse let m know so I can move on to help others.

I will continue to try and help you but I am certain you appreciate with a diode soldered into a circuit, this wiring has been hacked up big time and just trying to understand what has been done and how to restore it to just before you split the tractor is a challenge having not been there.

Sorry. I was out of town this weekend unexpectedly. I will pick up a bulb and fashion a socket.

I will check the resistance of the ceramic resistor and I will check the flow of the diode.

I do appreciate all your help.

Thanks
I was getting worried that you had walked away or found a solution and never told any of us on the forum which happens far more often than you would think.

I am expecting the ceramic resistor to not be any value close to the two in the wiring diagram

The 12 volt end of the resistor may have been just used as a convenient 12 supply for the alternator and has nothing to do with the charging system.

The socket for the bulb having two wires is important. Years ago I tried using a tractor trailer side marker light but it got its ground through the mounting screw and I had to do soldering to change to ground to an external wire.

In this Delco alternator application, 12 volts is applied to both terminals on the bulb once charging begins and the bulb goes out. Before charging starts the alternator becomes the ground for the dash warning light and it is on.

The second purpose of the bulb is to limit how much current can flow through terminal 4 to ground.

I wish I had a better memory on these old systems. When they replaced generators they were like a miracle and only provided 37.5 amps but did so at low speed and very reliably.

I now see very similar style Delco alternators putting out 150+ amps.

Hook one of these to your Oliver and the power needed to turn the alternator would stall the Oliver :)
