I am in the market for a SCUT I have never owned one and don't know much about them expect what I learned on the internet. From what I have read everyone loves them. Let me tell you about what I want to use the SCUT for. I own 11 acres and mow appox 4 acres, I have woods approx 6 acres of it and I like to go out in my free time for fun and cut trees and clear out the small trees and would like to get a brush hog to use instead of having to using my stihl brush cutter. I would also like to have a loader to level up the rough spots and to spead dirt around whenever I want to. I don't plan on digging a lake with a SCUT just minor dirt work. Also, have a rear blade to help with snow removal. I asked on the general forums and the opinions was so different I thought I would ask to the specific boards. I like the Kubota 2660 would that be enough tractor for my uses. The only thing I am worried about is how hard is it to connect and disconnect the loader and the mower? I appreciate everyone's thoughts. I am open to any SCUT, John Deere, MF, Mahindra, New Holland etc. I am on a budget thought $16K or less I don't mind buying a used one with low hours.

Normally I like to recommend them when the lot is less then ten acres although you could be fine for what you are doing. To much work in the back forty makes me want to go up a chassis to the 2320 Kubota although there really is not a lot comparable because of the three range transmission which is great for larger property.

I was in almost exactly the same position as you a year ago when we bought a 10 acre property (mowing 4) At that time I did quite a bit of research and lurked here for a while. Great advise here! I ended up with a BX2360 with a mmm and loader, and have been very happy overall. I now have a 4ft. tiller, carryall, 3pt log splitter, cultivator and several other attachments. I really have not found anything that I am unable to do. You will learn quickly how to attach and detach, I would not worry about that. At the time the JD 1026 was not ready to ship and I needed a mowing option immediately and that is what really pushed me to the Kubota. I would look hard at JD if it was happening now. Plus, in retrospect, I would probably jump up one tractor size as the BX does need a little more ground clearance to be great at everything that I have been using it for. As everyone here will tell you, your dealer choice is important, luckily, I am very happy with my Kubota dealer, but the JD dealer here is great too.

hope that helps,

Jon

Well, the John Deere sells Kubota's too, I doubt if I will take it to them to get the work done unless it is under warranty. I know a guy that retired as a mechanic from the JD dealer and he charges much less and does quality work. The problem with the 1026 is it would cost $18K and I can't afford that (my wife tells me). I saw on Craigslist a Kubota 2660 54 hours, loader, 60" mower deck, rear blade for $11,500!

I should rephrase I actually have 10 1/2 acres there are 2 houses my house and my mom's, a lagoon also, and 2 driveways, so actually prolly have 9 acres or so.

Well the first consideration is that are you a cash buyer or do you need to finance? I was in your shoes last fall, but I only have 4 acres (1/2 acre to mow). I like to buy used machines so that I can miss out on the steep initial depreciation. However I'm not a cash buyer and used equipment loan rates are 9%! 0% is so attractive that I went new. If I had the cash, I'd have bought a JD 855 or 4200 or something like that from Kubota, NH, or Massey. Use it for a while to do my roughing, and sell it at not much of a loss. Then buy a SCUT or HDGT to maintain with. I love my new SCUT though, just sometimes feel a little underpowered, and too light to do any work.

If you search me on YouTube you can see all of the options available for SCUT snow removal, to help your decision there. Good luck!
