hey guys, a friend of mine is thinking of buying a tractor mounted rototiller for his tractor and is needing some info before buying one. He has a older 601 ford tractor. i think its about 35 or 40 horse. What are some of the features to look for in a rototiller and which brand seems to give you the most bang for the buck.

We have the Geardrive Hawkline 5 ft for $1595 and the 6 ft for $1695. 6 tines per rotor and slip clutch PTO is a must--Our 5 ft weighs 700 and the 6 ft weighs 800. These tillers are bullitproof. Ken Sweet

I have a JD 5' tiller that I bought used. It doesn't quite cover my tire width but is offset, so I don't have to ride with one wheel on unbroken ground and one on tilled ground. Maybe all small tillers are offset - I don't know enough about them. It's just something to be aware of.

I agree a slip clutch is essential.

Interesting. I thought LandPride was the only one making them...

This summer, I would like to visit the USA factory that makes the KK gearboxes. Anyone know where it is located? Ken Sweet

After looking around, I have come to the determination that I'll be buying one of those 48" Hawkline's from Ken when I go to get a tiller (probably this fall). He's asking the same for those Hawkline gear drives as Tractor Supply is for their 48" Countyline chain drives. Landpride wanted $200 more than that for a 42" chain drive tiller.

I have a 6 foot King Kutter tiller and it does a great job. I would not get a reverse rotation tiller because it will suck the tiler into the ground if it hits a rock or a root instead of climbing over it.
