Thanks to everyone's help in getting my air brakes retracted so I can move my 1976 International Loadstar Dump Truck. In addition to getting the brakes freed up I also removed the back portion of the drive line. I found that the two speed rear axle still is in some gear and not in neutral. Is there any trick to manually moving something or manipulating a mechanism while it sits there to get into neutal. Engine does not run It would seem to me it would roll easier.

I am not totally familar with how this unit operates other then when under power as the driver.

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated

It's been more than a few years since I drove trucks with 2 speed rear ends, but I never saw one that had a "neutral" in the differential. If you disconnected the driveshaft, then I would expect the truck to roll just fine without any "neutral" in the differential because it could turn the input shaft as it rolled. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Like the other fellas said . If the tranny is in "N" then it will roll just fine . If you really want to see it roll at the easiest you could remove the rear axles . This is a lot of work for minimal benefit . Not to mention the oil will drain out .

The only neutral with a 2 speed rearend is that rattling you hear when you miss a shift. When it's making that noise it is in between gears and not sycronizing. If you ever down shifted and it seemed like neutral and won't hold the truck back letting the truck coast until you get it engaged.
I have driven a lot of I H's and GMC's with 2 speed rearend and once you get the hang of it they are great. I loved the fact that you could move the shift switch under power then take your foot off the gas and step back down and they magically shift! No clutch!
The 2 speed shouldn't make any difference for towing.
