Can you change the liner in the 210mvp to switch from steel to aluminum welding? Or is the spoolgun the way to go for aluminum?

Spool gun. Aluminum won't push very far before it balls up.

I ended up getting the 210MVP. So far Im very happy with it! It works as well as the Miller 211 we have at work.
The only concern I have and this was after I bought it. My shop at home has 120/208 three phase. I have a single phase sub panel with a 50 amp breaker in it for my welders. We just put in a step up transformer in at work for a piece of equipment that had its circuit board fry because it was running on 208. We stepped it up to 240.
This made me think I should look into running my welder on my 208 circuit.
I sent a message to Hobart and received a response already! Within an hour! They said as long as it doesnt go below 200 volts, otherwise it could switch to 120 and ruin the fan. If it does then I will need a transformer. I will have to check it and test under load. Hopefully my voltage stays steadily over 200 volts.

I'm surprised that any welder designed for 230v would fry on 208. Might not perform like many ESAB units.. Anything I have ever sold was either + or - 10% on input and or had power factor correction. Your 210 will likely be just fine unless you live in the sticks in farm country where voltage vaires all over the map. Good luck.

We live in the village and have village electric. We rarely have any issues even outages are minimal. I checked my welding outlet and have 214 volts, so I should be good. I would like to check voltage under load though. I run my air compressor on that circuit too, but not at the same time as the welder.

Dang, if I had 208 3 phase in the shop, I would buy one of the cheap used 3 phase migs that are fairly cheap on Craigslist...

Me too! 3 phase sure would open up opportunities for great tool buys that I don't even bother looking at.

Almost all the forums and videos I have seen support theory spool gun is best for aluminum... Some profess you can get away without spool gun but whip and gun need to be as straight as possible because the soft aluminum wire will gall and bind on steel liner of 210MPV machine... Best help for Hobart welders can be found here....
