need mole killer

   / need mole killer #21
I can live with the moles & gophers, but I sure would like to get rid of a beaver. This guy just won't give up on plugging up my lake trickel tube and overflow culverts. I seldom actually see him since he works the late shift so firearms at night make that option more difficult. Anyone got a better idea?

Well, it helps to have the right attitude. An important part of having the right attitude is to be drinking the right beer while chasing beaver. To that end...

I have an Elston Gopher Getter that I use, a GA-400 that I had the hitch modified on to fit and Imatch. As previously mentioned, they do come back. You have to keep after them.

that gopher getter would surely do more harm than good.

Here is THE surefire method for catching moles:
*spring trap set in a through-tunnel. Dead-end tunnels don't work as well.
*mound dirt under trigger.
*hair trigger modification: bend trigger downward slightly before setting trap.
*bait with poisen peanuts (brings 'em in quick) Look for the cone-shaped yellow container at the hardware or feed store.
*cover trap with box made from 2x4's and plywood. This keeps the hole dark.
*make sure safety is off.
*place cinder block on box to keep kids and pets out.
*set a new trap for each new hole.
*once mole is caught, replace sod and mow the nice lawn.
I do not have moles in my lawn.

I used to own 5 acres downstate in Michigan, and fought moles for years. As long as your neighbors have moles, and unless you want to put enough poisen on your yard to kill off all the grubs, earthworms, etc....you have to fight them continously. Most of the poisen peanuts, chewing gum, poisen gas, etc..methods are not very effective. The pronged spring traps will work if modified, removing the four outside prongs, and leaving only one prong on each side. This setup might miss a mole once and awhile, but will kill more moles than the original 6 prong trap by far. Another effect method, if you have the time and enjoy the process...is to stomp the trails down flat, grap a few beers, and set down and watch. If you see any new soil movement, attack with pitchfork or hoe. Moles are sensitive to any noise, and will play possum if there is any activity nearby. They are really noisy as they tear thru new sod, and you can hear them very clearly.

I have 3,000 gophers and one fat cat, he eats all he can and leaves the rest. At least there are no gophers in the yard.

Warning: Not all cats eat gophers, make sure you read the label.
