I have Verizon with 4 phones (family plan). For me, all I want is a basic phone and my Motorola W755 flip phone is great - good reception, battery life, etc. It does what a phone should do with no fuss or complication.

The rest of the family has texting phones (LG, Samsung, etc). The star of the group is the Kin One. It's got built in Wi-Fi and a browser so you can use it for Internet access without a data plan (as long as you have Wi-Fi access). It's good for texting and works OK as a phone also.

I have had the motorola droid a855 for over a year and use all the bells and whistles. I have some friends with htc's that they are very pleased with.

In the past and still prefer to use a phone for what it's for....a phone. However not that is said I just got the HTC Thunderbolt and do like it a lot. Finally have a phone that I can see without my reading glasses and audio is pretty good. As far as apps.... I use a few like gas buddy (who doesn't now days) and an FM Radio app. Only complaint is battery life if you use it on the internet much can kill a battery quickly but if used for just a phone and some mild texting will last about 3 days. Not much but considering what's under the hood pretty good. This fall they are suppose to come out with a higher capacity battery so that should help.

I have the motorola boulder(similar to the g'zone) very durable and tough. Does texting and other stuff I don't use. Son and wife have droids and love them. That will probably be my next phone but I like the one that you don't need glasses. Will upgrade in July. BTW if duckhunter can get a good signal in Dannebrog, you can get a verizon signal anywhere lol:D:thumbsup::D:thumbsup:

I got a HTC Droid Incredible about three months ago and really like it. Mine is running 3G on the Verizon network, it's pretty quick and the internet access is almost as good as the home computer! You can zoom in and actually read it too, good for the old eyes! The Incredible is also battery hungry just like your Thunderbolt is so the very first thing I did was to order an extended run time battery. For about $53 it now goes MUCH longer between charges, even with my heavy internet usage. I haven't added too many apps yet, still getting used to it and deciding which ones I want to add.

I don't know if this phone is still available new, but the LG VX-8300 is a VERY GOOD phone (got great CNET review), not too complicated but still gives you lots of features like email, camera, limited internet access, a camera, and of course texting. I have one I will sell with three chargers for $40! :) You can check reviews for almost any phone ever made at Product reviews and prices, software downloads, and tech news - CNET

Good luck with whatever you get.

My Wife and I went to Iphones last Christmas. I was a bit reluctant I will admit. Prior to the Iphones We had Normal LG phones .. no data, no txt plan at all.

My thoughts are overall positive for the smart phone. I used to make fun of texting ... why would you need that??? just call ... I've been converted to texting for many things now .... much faster than leaving a voice mail .. and for swapping addresses and phone numbers you can't beat it.

I use the map feature quite a bit as well .. My buddy and I went to pick up a cheap car and just plugged in the address and took us right to the guy's house .. and did not have to carry GPS device ... all in the phone.

I even used the web browser to save about $40 bucks at Harbor Freight when I went to buy a diesel heater ... checked online and it was about $40.00 less so they gave me the discount price just by looking at the price online right on my phone.

Now the kicker.. TBN has an App for reading the forums on the Iphone (I would think one for the Droid too?) .. comes in handy ... lets just say don't need magazine rack in bathroom anymore.
