I'm seeking my first tractor. I've decided I need a minimum of 35 hp; hydro is desirable as my wife may need to help w/ the snow clearing while I'm away at work (upstate NY). I have found the following situation - year 2000 4400 hydro, 1 rear remote, mid PTO, loader w/ 6' bucket quick tach, front hydraulic 6' tilt snow blade and rear blade. 347 hours, private use. Says snow blade needs a broken weld repaired - banged it against snow banks. It's a bit of a hard luck story - economy down, wife has new baby, needs $21500 to cover balance owed; $30K originally financed. What do you think? I go see it tommorrow. Advice appreciated.

hello Omegaman, I would say that price is high. You could almost buy new for what he is asking.(unless you forgot some attachments).BTW, my father had a 2000 4400 and always complained about the hst pedal pushing very hard when he was pushing dirt with it. He traded for a 4410 with twin pedals and couln't be happier.

Two things:

1) It seems like he financed more than what he is selling.
2) Does it have the new or old style front axle (assuming MFWD)?

Way too high. Your seller is looking for a present, made a little more obvious by the hard luck story. A brand new 4410 setup like that (around here) is about $25k. I had quotes last summer for a 4710 eHydro/460 FEL with attachments for $28k out the door. And if your wife will be running the tractor she will appreciate the foot pedal setup of the TEN series hydro over the mechanical setup on the Gen 1's.
Remember that the 4400 is already one generation old, soon to be two when the mid-size TWENTY series tractor come out. With the aggressive financing deals that Deere gives a prospective customer can get a new tractor for a cheaper monthly payment than buying your used tractor for a lower price. That drives used tractor pices down. Be careful not to let his mistake (paying too much) your mistake. A tractor is a looooooong term asset.
