In addition to what MarkV said about clothing, I would also suggest a large brush like a pushbroom and a smaller one like a foxtail brush. Brushing over the sprayed area lightly will help the stain fill all cracks and crevices for a smoother application. I have an old horsehair pushbroom that I use on my cedar dutchlap siding, and it works very well.

When I bought my Graco sprayer I also bought the roller attachment. Haven't used it yet (still hanging on my shop wall in the carton). I'm not sure how well it works, but I thought since I was buying the sprayer I just as well go all out and get the roller attachment.

If you are doing a big job, there is nothing better!
As in any paint job, the most important phase is the prep work, make sure that you mask off, or learn how to use a
spray masker(practice on some scrap first)
Get your self a GOOD respirator, or you will be doing your health a disservice.
Cover you self, Hat, coveralls, etc,
And clean the sprayer well after each use, I usually run water thru 3-4 times, until it runs clear, and then mineral spirits to lube the unit.
Campbell-Hausfeld isn't a bad brand.
Happy Painting!

Excellent tips guys. Thanks. Will probably try to get this done in the next few weeks. Of course I've been saying that for 2 years now but hopefully once I spend the money on this unit I'll feel compelled to get the job done.
