I purchased my 2610 about 6 months ago with what appeared to be a new battery (55 month waranty). I went out yesterday to find the battery dead and when I tried to jump it the battery smoked as I tried to turn the tractor over. When I was removing the battery I noticed it was much smaller than the mounting area (probably an extra 4-6 inches left to right, and the battery would easily fall through the mounting area if you slid it to one side). My concern is that the battery was too small (could have caused it's early demise?) and I want to replace it with the proper size. The battery is a generic - Ready Power 550, model #VL24/24R, 550 amps @ 32 deg, 440 amps @ 0 deg. I thought those of you who import and prep these tractors on a regular basis would be well versed in sizing batteries. Does this size sound right? What size battery do most of you use on this size tractor? Thanks for any help.

You need a group 27 series battery. Not the R series. Just the plain group 27 series. I think that will take care of your problem.

Thanks,
