1980 Ford 340
Had a deal lined up and the seller backed out. So I started looking again, found these about an hour away from me

3 POINT POST HOLE AUGER

He has agreed to 350 for one of them my choice which.

However I don't want to drive that far for junk. I need to have the holes dug for the porches by the time the inspector comes for the the final house inspection in march and don't want to dig 10 holes by hand. I will also be installing about 1/2 mile of fence, 200 feet of boarded fence, a kids playhouse, and a post frame livestock barn.

I have a ford 340 which is similar to a ford 4000 Independent PTO

Are parts still available for these? Replacement tips? Are they good units?

The man on the phone was older and hard of hearing so not really able to answer any questions.

I don't want to bother working on someone else's timeline.

I've never seen one, $350 would almost buy a new TSC unit? I've got one about 20 years old, it's drilled lots of holes, but it is just something I got at TSC.

I saw a similar one on CL here in Denver recently.

My basic thought was its a very old design that nobody makes anymore. Probably for a good reason. I suspect the modern design is not only less complex (cheaper) but generally works better.

Important info to know is the size of the output shaft on the gearbox(where the auger hooks to it). Some older units have uncommon sizes, making replacement augers near impossible to find.
Also, if the teeth are worn, can you get replacements? An auger with no downpressure is of little use without good teeth beneath.

Would you be able to take a look at this thread, and see if you guys carry replacement augers, or cutting teeth that will fit it?
