Another note on the electric fence - ground it very well or else you'll be replacing fence chargers due to lightning activity.

One idea.....I found a fellow who LOVES to hunt coyotes AND respects my property AND passes my tough test for safe hunter..... I give him the right to hunt, he is accurate and gets a coyote about half the time he comes out.

Wonder if you could find someone who would like to remove the coons from your field...and do it your way, properly.

My worry is that you will spend much on electric fence and still not deter the critters, they are EXTREMELY clever. However, as indicated, if you can give lead poisoning to about 4 of them, your problems may all go away for a while.

Electric fence has worked for the last 7 years for me too. It's a pain to put up and I always think maybe I won't need it but I always put it up. I know what will happen if I don't.

Electric fence works for me, 2 wires one about 4 inches off ground, 2nd about 6-8 inches abouve that. Sometimes I even add a third one. Something else that I hear really thins out the coons is Golden Malrin fly bait in a pan of soda pop.

Over the years I have tried catch and release and I'm such a softie I re-locate spiders. But I fear the racoons will just keep coming and not get the hint.

Coons were catching my brother's chickens and he tried live trapping them and then relocating them. One coon he caught had one ear missing. He drove 13 miles away and turned the coon loose, like he had done several before. Less than 24 hours later, that same coon was caught again in the same live trap.

He was smart enough to find his way back but not smart enough to resist the salmon bait in the trap. He won't be coming back again.

Another vote for the electric fence. I use 3/8 rebar, cut to about 3' lengths. I put them 6-8' apart. Buy the yellow screw on insulators. I have been using the same wire for at least 25 yrs. I have a piece of thin plywood with two vees cut into it & two handles that I use to roll & unroll it. 30'x90'. Honestly takes about 1 hr. to put up. One strand couple inches off the ground & the other about 6 inches above that. Works for all the animals including deer & coon. Without it there would be no use planting the garden.
