Just bought a used gooseneck flatbed trailer to use in a small hay operation. It has an 18' deck with a 3' dovetail (for a total of 21 feet). The dovetail brings the height down from 36 to about 21 inches but there are no ramps and no evidence that it ever had any. I need to transport a tractor that weighs around 6000 with loader but may have an implement attached also. My question is, would you go with a detachable aluminum set of ramps (for around $500-600 it looks like for a heavy duty pair) or can a welding shop fix me up with some wedge or fold up ramps that might do the trick without breaking the bank? Thanks! This is a step up for me from a 16 foot bumper pull following the purchase of a larger tractor (5525 Mahindra with loader). (Got a good deal on the trailer or I would have held out for one with ramps). By the way, what would be the purpose of a dovetail without ramps?

That trailer probably had ramps at one time since that dove tail is just added weight if it was suppose to be a straight flatbed.

Find a local trailer place like C&M across from the race track or the other place a few miles before you get to the race track and get some quotes on putting the correct ramps back on there. Both are on the R/H side as your headed to Ennis.
