Need recommendation for fire extinguisher for PT-425

Or, and I hate to say this, you could let it burn. More than likely it is covered under your insurance. I say this because I had a friend with a burned up tractor. Put the fire out, rebuilt it, but it was never right again. Leaks from the heat, hoses failing, metal a bit fatigued.

Let it burn.

Now there's a thought. However, I think the damage you described would be covered anyway. Also, my land is technically inside the GW National Forest. A tractor fire in one of my fields last year during a sever drought could have stared a wildfire... I think you have to have an extinguisher to at least contain the fire. In south Louisiana where I grew-up fire was the preferred method of replacing older insured equipment.

You could mount two small fire extinguishers in the ROPS ceiling, one in each corner.

I would assume that they would be secured with something that I could easily break or remove when needed. I think its too dangerous to mount even small ones above my head. Hit a big bump and the top of my head would have a large dent.

I use a 10lb dry powder. Chances are if you need an extinguisher, more will be better.

I would mount it at the back of the engine cover. I mounted in the front, which adds to dead weight when lifting the engine cowling to do repairs.

You can get under hood automatic fire extinguishers... for a price. Google them.

PT_Rich had mounted one on the inside of the ROPS up high, as shown in this pic from when I brought it home. I've since changed the mounting to something more than duct tape, but it's still in the same position. Easily accessible, yet protected, and not near the engine compartment, where the fire would most likely be...
