Folks,

Can someone tell me the correct size and type of adapters needed? I just had a frustrating afternoon trying to connect the hydraulics for the new Power Sweeper to my new PT425. I know these quick connectors get easier with use, but the issue is that I cannot get enough leverage to pop the connector. There is very little clearance below the connectors preventing a firm grasp of the connector. A 45 degree or right angle adapter pointing up would give the opportunity for more downward leverage. A big strong neighbor was able to eventually make the connections with some difficulty. Very Frustrating!

If there is any residual pressure in the PT, or the implement, the connection will be difficult. The sleeves on some QD's push to connect. Some also turn and pull.

Would turning off the tractor relieve the residual pressure? Any other way of doing it? We were sliding the sleeve back, then pushing the male connector pass the small bearings to click then release sleeve. They seem to work that way. We eventually achieved connections, but it was hard.

i think there are posts here explaining what to do to connect. I usually turn off the tractor. When storing the equipment, i connect the supplies and returns together. When using the auxillary PTO, i turn off the tractor and work the lever up and down a few times, holding at each end for several seconds. Even then, sometimes it can still be hard. I keep a rubber strap wrapped around the ROPS post so i can use it to hold the lever up or down while connecting. I have not had to do that for a long time since connecting the supply and return during storage helps dramatically. I do not remember having trouble with the PTO but i have always had the tractor off for that.

Thanks Ken. It is much easier to connect after holding the lever up for 3 seconds. The QDs on the attachment were new -- once the bearings were lubricated in use, they were easier to connect. Still, they are harder than should be. I may still get the right angle adapters for the 1/4 size.

On my 1850 i have to shut the engine down to change out the ALT PTO connectors. Once you unlock an implement you pressurize that line and I can never get the circuit to reconnect unless I shut down and cycle the circuit.

Just my 2c

Yes, I forgot to mention that I shutoff the tractor as well.

Thanks folks!

Exactly!!! You need to cycle the circuit after it is off.

Best of luck. They do get easier after a few uses.
