Need some new treads for the F250HD

Check out the TIRE RACK it has ratings and reviews and you can purchase from them also. I just purchased BRIDGESTONE DUELER AT REVO for my truck. The Goodyear wrangler rts that came with it had to be the worst tire I have ever had. No traction in the rain when starting from a stop.

Steven,
I am actually thinking of putting the very same tires (P255/70R16) on my 2000 F-150 4x4. Let me know how you like your Revo's.
I am replacing a set of Yokohama Geolander A/T + II's that didn't wear well, only lasted 1 year and maybe 18,000 miles.

Steven, I have purchased two sets of tires from the Tire Rack. I order them on Wednesday afternoon and in the morning they are sitting at my gate. Shipping is cheap and I can mount them myself. It's a great place to get some facts but beware of the opinions, folks are often comparing their brand new tires to the old worn out tires they replaced without consideration. Many comments I dismiss. Nonetheless, a great place.

Sorry, nothing new to add but I can second what others have stated.

Michelins for sure. My 97F250HD is in the balding stage and I'm going for the XPS. Also, ditto on the Tirerack. Very informative web-site.

I can add a recommend AGAINST Goodrich mud-terrains. Miserable tires. Noisy, wear fast (even range Es), out of round, out of balance. Looked nice for the first couple of months on the truck, but became a nuisance shortly after that /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I purchased a set of the Good years a few years back for my Bronco. They got returned in about a month. They were totally out of round. It was like driveing down the road over mini speed bumps. One thing the tire guys did tell me was to stick with the metric sizes in their tires as the molds are made to much tighter tolerances. I have the Bidgestone revos on my new truck. They do lack a little traction. I thought the same thing of the Firestones for the first 10-15k but then they actually got a LOT better and turned out to be great tires. I hope The Bidgestones do as well. Dave

I'll diverge a little. I won't say the others aren't good tires. I've always gone to Sam's and gotten the original General AT's. They are good tires and last 40k plus, even with my heavily loaded driving. They are usually are $80 a piece. I don't know if they're as good as Michelins, probably not, but I feel they are good tires, esp. for the price.

That is the tire I have now. I have read alot of bad things about that tire with sidewall blowout. The Michelins look like a great tire but I dont know about the 180 price tag each. Spent some time on the net last night and came across the Uniroyal AWP. They have pretty good ratings on the tire rack site. Local Ford dealer talked good about them and they are 110 each installed. Should I bite the bullet and spend 720 for the Michelin. Any oppinions on the Uniroyal? It looks like I will spend the same amount of time trying to figure out what tires to buy as I did trying to buy my Kubaota! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I kind of like that idea Richard. Are you getting load range E tires for that kind of money? That's less than half the price of the Michelins /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

You might also try Costco for the Michelins. They can order them for you. The price is high, but not necessarily expensive. Pick up a XPS or RIB ( the street version) and feel the weight. There are many other tires that will cost quite a bit less that I'm sure would work fine. If they get half the wear of the Michelin, then your almost tied and winning when you consider mounting and balance. I bought a set of Les Schwab Toyo Open Country for my truck last time. They were about $150 each. They are warranted for 80,000. There is no way I'm going to get that, not even close. Rather then go back for the warranty pro-rated replacement, I'll go to Costco, maybe Tire Rack.com (they were more there then Costco) and see if the Michelins will fit on my rims. They are for 265/75-16's rather then 235/85-16's and may be to wide.

Front tires on my PSD are 30,000 mile tires, I don't care WHAT the manufacturers say. With 4wd, the weight of the diesel, turning, the majority of braking and cornering they just don't make it. Now the rears on the dually will last close or up to the mileage stated by the manufacturer.

The problem is the dually rears wear square and the the fronts "roundoff" so you really can't rotate them well. The same tires on the rear are perfectly "squared" and the fronts are wearing like in a more "rounded" fashion by 10,000 miles. If at 10,000 you rotate front to rear the difference is obvious. Rotating 6 or 7 tires is a pain and I am not doing it every 5,000 miles which would be about every 2 1/2 months. You need to take 4 of them off the rims because the rear inside rims aren't finished. No way that's happening even every 10K

I have read posts from many people and it seems they rotate the fronts side to side, leave the rears be and go for front replacements at a 2 to 1 ratio.

My current tires Continental Contitrac SUV/LT are 80,000 mile tires, not cheap and done at 30,000 just as my Generals lasted before them.

Retreadable tires may have place for me though. The price for XPS is high but recapping the 2 fronts and throwing them on the rear might work. I could then recap the 2 "new" fronts and swap once again. Moving the "square" wearing tires fromt he rear is Ok, it's trying to rotate fronts out that doesn't work.

P.S. I have tried every inflation pressure with little change in the front. They are at or close to max but the outside still wears quickly. When they were set lower the outside tread vanished. Rears are at about 45lbs whe unloaded and wear fine.
