The company doesn't make a larger bowl or extension and the much larger marine units or heavy equipment units won't fit. I've got more vertical room than horizontal room. The unit is perfect otherwise.

Darren,

I work for a mechanical contractor, and it would probably be cheaper if you can find a machine shop or someone like that. They could probably make one for you cheaper than the material prices that have been mentioned (depending on how long it is). Use SS SCH10 pipe with male threads (cut down nipple) welded to one end and a half coupling welded to the other. As far as the sensor goes; just use a thread-o-let for female threads or a cut down nipple for male threads. Just my 2 cents.

That is usually galvanized. Galvanization and diesel fuel is a no-no. It will flake of.

Darren, I am just curoius, is this fuel stored in a tank on your property? I never seem to have to drian the bowls in my tractor or my truck. I wonder why you have so much water?

How about Brass,

you could get a brass nipple. They come in various lengths and you could get one at a plumbing supply house. You would have machine the inside thread or buy a coupling.

I would be cheaper than SS

I'm not sure if these folks ship out of state but it might be worth a phone call.

They charge by the pound for all kinds of steel and the prices are reasonable.

They will sell you an inch or a mile's worth.

Too bad SCH 80 doesn't work. Are any plastics okay? I have a short piece of SCH 80 PVC, OD = 2.785 and Wall = 0.29+ If that can work it machines nice. I also have a couple of real nice pieces of mystery plastic that looks like PTFE or POM. The OD is 3.6 and they are 11+ inches long. I attached a pic. I dragged this stuff home for my own use but they are not earmarked for anything special yet.

Have you considered an Oilfield Supply Retailer. They should have couplers/swedges/unions/nipples/ threaded weldelets/ all the things you need.

Look under pipe fittings

Brad the bowl is plastic. I'm guessing a polycarbonate. I appreciate the offer. I've thought of having it machined out of plastic. The local job shop had some large diameter white plastic stock when I dropped in a few days ago.

After looking at the OD and ID of pipe, it looks like bar stock is the only solution if the extension is going to made out of metal. Aluminum is cheaper than SS or brass. If I could find a cheap scrap 3" cutoff, I'd be happy.

Egon, there's at least three oilfield suppliers within a 1/2 hour's drive. Unfortunately I don't think pipe or pipe fittings not going to do it. I suspect the sensor is also a Whitworth thread which doesn't simplify things.

About water: I've gotten a bunch of water on two occassions. When that happens the regular filter stops the water but starves the engine and it dies. I've used a Mr. Funnel as a pre-filter and I've still had water get into the tank. There's a perfect spot on the firewall for the water separator but I'd be on and off the tractor quite a bit to drain the small bowl. It'd be easier to just add the adapter and drain the bowl maybe once a day or whenever the sensor activated the warning light.

Is there a way to put an auto drain valve on what you have now? I am sure that you thought about it but just thought I would ask. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Good luck
