What's a squirrel ranch?

We are converting about 50 acres of our place from cattle to pecan trees. I am getting too old to chase cows at three in the morning when they get out. Trees don't run off. Figure with 600 to 800 trees I will get a lot of squirrels. Already stockpiling .22 bullets in anticipation.

Why do people see the need to destroy anything that isn't in line with their personal well being and success.

Kubota RTVs (well at least the newer X series made since 2015) are excellent and work horses. We have 5 of them. They are not fast, sporty, and they ride rough but the can flat out work. We had the pre 2014 versions and they gave us a lot of troubles. The radiator was under the seat and it needed cleaning several times a day. Lots of overheating issues. The new ones are great. Three we bought this year but the other two we have had since 2015 and have used them hard and have had to replace a muffler bracket and a temperature sensor. Thats it. Some weeks they get 60+ hours of use.

MOST machines out there are more toy than machine, on account of the popularity. Just like most four door pickups are more grocery getters than work trucks. And both, have become more expensive than they are worth, in my opinion, again, largly because of the popularity and demand.

Cushman used to or still builds some ugly, basic hardworking utility vehicles for the turf industry.

I understand now. Squirrel ranch. Makes sense.

My folks had about ten pecan trees on an acre and to get any nuts it took a lot of work thinning the squirrels out. Average squirrel will either eat or destroy over 50 pounds of nuts a year - so you have to prevent them from getting a foothold or it is over. Damned tree rats.
