A ammo box bolted or welded to your RC is probably just as sturdy as the cutter. With their latch.. i can't imagine it coming open by accident..

You have never seen me bush hogging /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have managed to somehow bend the front and rear of my RC and an ammo box is no where near the same thickness of steel. Not trying to be a pessamist - just a realist

I could see a RC mounted ammo box working for average type, open area, hoggin though -

I'd say that constitutes some pretty abusive use... While I don't "baby" my cutters.. I don't plow into trees intentionally with them either.

Well.. for 'real'.. how about mounting it away from an edge.. perhaps on a lip or ridge behind the gear box. even on a 4' mower, that should put it over a foot away from an edge... If stuff is getting damaged that far up a rotary mower.. you need more than a toolbox.. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Soundguy,
I probably got you confused about which tractor I was talking about since my name is Fortyseven2n .

We are talking about a TO-30. I have one of those also. It has a tilting hood and the gas tank is mounted above the engine and the toolbox is located betwix the gas tank and the radiator.

My 2N has the box mounted like the pic you posted.

My JD 40-S has a tiny "toolbox" mounted in front of the battery box. Really not worth much at all.

One thing I forgot to note is that the Continental Z-129 engines on the TO-30 is prone to cracking. Make sure that the radiator is clean and the coolant is full , etc. .Also there is no position control so a Zane Thang or limiting chains are needed for bush hogging.

I take a small toolbox with me when I go cutting. I usually carry it on the RC, between some of the bracing on top of the deck. Once I would get to where I was going to be cutting I would remove it and set it to the side somewhere.

Once last summer, I forgot to move it and started cutting. I was halfway through when I noticed it still sitting there on the deck. Now, I just leave it on.

Keep in mind, I do not cut a lot of steep slopes and the bracing is probably about 2" high. Holds the box in pretty good. I have not had any problems.
