Need to change to super UDT at 50 Hrs??

Looking at chevron's site, it appears that "THF 1000" == UDT, and "All weather THF" == SUDT. The product descriptions even list these as equivalent replacments, and both are colored orange. I'd say that Chevron is probably the original manufacturer, and Kubota just relabels the oil.

Now, the question is, where can I get 'All weather THF', and is it going to be any cheaper than Kubota's labled SUDT?

Jlemon, I found a dealer under OIL in the yellow pages. If they sell it up here for $54/5gal it is probably cheaper in Wisconsin. I asked the fellow there at the oil company if it was the same as Kubota Super UDT. He was honest and said that that sort of thing was a closely held "secret" between companies like Kubota and Chevron. He also said that he doubted that Kubota manufactured oil.

Jlemon:

Dah!! Let you fingers do the walking in the yellow pages under "oil distributors" Sometimes, the internet dosen't do the trick, especially for local purchases.

Chevron/Texaco manufactures the oil for Kubota, packages it and sells it to Kubota. Sort of like mouthwash. Lavoris is red, so is the Wally mart brand, just cheaper. All comes from the same place!!!

Yellow Pages? What's the web address for that? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sometimes I have to stop and remember that not everything is online, and there are other ways to accomplish things. I'll give 'em a call tomorrow morning and see if I can get a quote. I can't recall seeing lots of Chevron stations/dealers in the midwest though; not like back on the west coast where they're all over the place (like Citigo is here).

I use a L295 (it's my friend's) and noticed that the transmission case was only ~1/4th full of fluid. What would be the likely damage from using the tractor in this state and seeing that the tractor is quite old what would be the best fluid to fill it up with?

40Kchicks: The dealer I get parts from is $71.98 for 5-gallons ($12 per gallon). The Amsoil fluid is $69.8 for six gallons ($10 per gallon).

Not saying one is better then the other but the Kubota oil at this dealer is over priced.

I just got a price quote from my oil distributor. he is the one who fills my farm tank and carries my Pacific Pride account. I talked to him today and he told me that the Kubota Dealer (Dans Farm Supply, Adrain, Michigan) was actually cheaper for UDT and SUDT than he was. That was kinda of a shock to me so I guess I'll just keep buying those black plastic 2.5 gallon jugs.

Thats rare, sounds like a good dealer. Mine is priced at $35.34 2.5 gallon. I use regular "UDT" from Sams or the local oil/fuel supplier or distributor when I need it delivered. (off road is $1.00 per gallon delivered). Never had a problem with any equipment due to hydro oil. But, if I had the money I would use the pricey synthetic stuff too, but I wouldn't pay retail.

I don't think Beshears or maybe Kubota put super UDT in my L4330. Its a very light yellow, not orange like some have said. But, the tractor is a GST not HST. The stuff in the tractor is exactly the same color that I get in bulk containers for about $3.50 a gallon from an oil supplier. I usually buy it in the 5 gallon buckets instead of the drums unless I need a bunch for three tractors or more. The price is very close. Price a pallet from a wholeseller, you'll be amazed by the wholesale prices. Its not hard to get an EIN and have a small side business. We even buy soaps, flour, seasoning, etc at wholesale from the manufactures. Even a wholesale mark up is 60 to 80%, somtimes 100%. The minimums are somtimes lower than expected. Usually $150 to $300 per order. My lowest is $75 per order for soaps. We are starting our third home/side business this year. One of these days one will become our main source of income... I hope its going to be the tree farm / nursery /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Added: There is a big differance between a supplier and a dealer, manufacture, ect... Check around... Most so called oil companies are middle men or worse. On branded products there is usually at least 4 or more people between you and the real manufacture. I try to cut out as many as possiple. The shipping or transport from company to company runs the price up on the packaged products. Find the manfacture of the product and work towards the person that will sell to you.

Or just pay the going rate, on most things it won't be worth the time. But I have cut my cost down 40 to 50% below so called wholesale prices because I did my research. Then I make money off those people that don't want to do the research by selling to them about 30% below retail. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I am beginning to wonder if the stuff I have in mine is "Kubota Blend". It never has looked orange to me. Oh well I plan to do the 50 hr ceremonial change with the Chevron stuff so I guess it don't matter too much. BTW does anyone know off the top of their noggin what size oil filter wrench these things take. I have three of them for my vehicles and two are too small and one too large. Figures.
