Well, if it has not been made clear to some people about the importance of a locate this will get you attention. Two Thurs. ago 5/31, a contractor for the state was drilling some core samples for a gas station in the center of town a couple hundred feet from our c.o.. They had a mark out done but, the yahoo running the job flipped the plans upside down and drilled on the opposite corner and drill right through a 2500 pr. cable and 2 600pr. cables. As of this past Thurs. the bill was getting near $500,000 and still climbing. Had to section out the cables, replace the duct and splice both ends in man hole and c.o. 1 crash truck at $100 an hour, 1 cop 24 hr a day on overtime, digging crew to shure up trench, and 6 splicers working 7a-7p@8hrs. straight and 4 hrs ot. plus 6 more splicers 7p -7a same deal. Also, factor in the credit issued to the sub's for no service for 9 days. So as you can see as others have said a simple job can become quite expensive. Worst part was if he drilled a couple inches on way or the other know one would know a thing.

No wonder my insurance bill is so insanely high. :(

Funny isn't it? In my youth, they were always the richest, most successful people we knew. But then they made me go to college so I could spend my life in an office shaped like... and about the same size as... a jail cell. Is the world screwed up or what???

Doug, some of us are cursed to go to school to get to work like so many prairie dogs to make enough money to be able to support plumbers who do for us what we could have done if we hadn't gone to too much school.

I too have made a complete change of work from scientist and engineer to ranch hand and woodworker. I still do the odd bit of plumbing but not for the big bucks. Actually it isn't the world that is screwed up, especially our little corner of it where we are free to make these changes and be a ditch digger, plumber, or ranch hand, it is just us. We make a series of choices for whatever reason and end up in cells, I mean cubicles or other labor extraction enclosures.

Oh well...

Truer words have never been spoken. Sadly, too many of us let this choice be made for us by others supposedly with more experience, wisdom and with our best interest in mind (most of whom never worked 30 years in a jail cell... opps, I mean office. Unfortunately, too often they get it wrong. I suppose that's what many mid-life career & lifestyle changes are all about.

But did you feel that way back in junior high school (8th grade) when decision time came for selecting a trade high school vs. a college prep high school?
