Need to match pinion and ring gears?

Concerning parts houses. I went into a Chief's one day for a spark plug for a weedeater. They had a whole wall of plugs, but not the one I needed. The counter man said they didn't carry those. I looked around, then said "you know, this would be a good place for a parts house." He didn't think it was funny.

Hayden, now that repairs are complete, and after all the discussion here about laser cut gears, blah, blah, blah, what is your take on the condition of the gears that came out compared to the new ones that went in. Happy tractoring.

You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the new and old gears, other than the sheared off input shaft. Ditto for the bearings. As I think I mentioned, I replaced the bearings because I buggered the roller cage on one of them when it slipped in my press while attempting to get it off the shaft. They were smooth and indistinguishable from new until I mangled them.

Back to one of the earlier points were were discussing - I could find no indication of any matching between the ring and pinion gears, either new or old. There are no markings or numbers at all on any of the gears, so I think they are sold as a set to ensure you don't use one new gear with an old worn gear, e.g. wear matching as opposed to gears that are made for each other.

The best part .... I've got my tractor back....
