Need to plant some fescue, right this time.

I sprayed mine two days ago with glyphosate. Instructions said I could replant even before I sprayed as long as the seed had not germinated yet. I will sow asap but I have to dig some trenches for gutter drains first.

After you plant it, the key to getting a good stand is keeping the ground moist until it sprouts. A turf company guy told me it is best to water small amounts several times daily. Just keep it moist, no standing water. Do this for the first two weeks. This is easy if you have a sprinkler system.

I agree with this completely. It takes about 72 hours to germinate the seed. During that time, you need to keep the seed damp/moist. I just pull a rotary aerator over my yard, plant, and water. The seed comes up in little clusters where each prong of the aerator has poked a hole. If I don't aerate, I get next to no seed germination. I've never tilled prior to planting, so I'd think you'd want to maybe roll the seed in just slightly to anchor it.

I'm in a whole different part of the country than you, but I just planted a lawn this spring and had good results...

I put in a sprinkler system first and that was one of the best ideas I've had in a long time. Funny thing was that anywhere I dug a trench for tubing/Pipes, I got a nice row of tall weeds. My theory is that I dug up old weed seeds when I dug the trench. This is another reason to not till too deep.

I spread a little horse manure since that's what I had. other than that I didn't fertilize, but I did use Humates. I drug an old pallet around for a few hours to smooth things out and then rolled it with a lawn roller. Then I planted and watered.

My best advice is to be patient. It took a long time before I started to see grass at all and then a long time after that before it started to look like a lawn. Three months later now it's starting to look like a lawn. It still needs to fill in in places.
